Faye Adams
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Faye Adams (born Faye Tuell circa 1923) is an American vocalist best known for a string of hits in the 1950s, including "Shake A Hand", "Hurts Me To My Heart", "I'll Be True" and "Anything For A Friend".
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Adams began her career in gospel music at the age of five with the Tuell Sisters. She joined the Joe Morris Orchestra in 1952, and as part of that organization recorded the songs that established her name in the R&B world.
By 1958 Adams was seen as an older recording artist whose time had come and gone. She returned to the church and ended her R&B career.
Alan Freed called Adams the "little gal with the big voice". Adams was given a Pioneer Award by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1998.
