Fauziya Kassindja

Fauziya Kassindja is a woman originally from Togo whose legal case made history in United States immigration law by establishing gender-based violence as grounds for asylum. She was granted asylum in June 1996 after fleeing her homeland from female genital cutting. She currently resides in the United States.
