[edit] Welcome

Hello, Fat pig73, welcome to Wikipedia.

Here are some tasks you can do:

You might find these links helpful in creating new pages or helping with the above tasks: How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should read our policies at some point too.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.

Again, welcome! —Plato

[edit] Great stuff!

[edit] Rivers of Toronto

  • Hello, I don't agree with the the need for this subcategory. Only a few of the rivers and creeks mentioned here are contained completely within Toronto. Most of them start outside Toronto and flow into the city. Why not leave them as Rivers of Ontario?

Atrian 04:10, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

I just wnated to thank you for all the additions and extra work on Toronto Transit Commission and the related articles. These keep evolving much further than one would think they could, thanks to work like yours! Radagast 03:33, Mar 3, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] HKWNB, HKCOTW, Current events

Hi. I noticed you have edited some Hong Kong-related articles. You might be interested to take a look at HK wikipedians' notice board, HK Collaboration of the Week and Current events in Hong Kong and Macao. Happy editing! — Instantnood 21:37, Mar 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Runway numbering

In reference to your recent edit of the Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport article, runways are numbered by their direction (usually magnetic, except in the far north). So a runway where you take off with a heading of ~30° will be runway 03, a runway where you take off directly west will be runway 27, etc. Buttonville has no runway 01 or 02. David 15:40, 2005 Apr 15 (UTC)

[edit] Sir

I have redirected some of your new pages. We do not put pages under people's titles and we do not have multiple articles on the same person. Rmhermen 13:30, Jun 8, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Eglinton West stations

FP, I admire your work on TTC articles. Please keep it up.

I am afraid that the articles on proposed stations on lines that were nver built are likely to be nominated for VfD at some point, and it would be hard to defend them since the stations have never existed, and probably never will. Fuerthermore, there is little information in the articles. I think it would be better to transfer what info there is into the Eg West Line article (which would flesh that out a bit), and then redirect the station pages to that article. Ground Zero 16:03, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] TTC cleanup

Appreciate your continued work on TTC. A suggestion: instead of adding the "Return to Toronto Transit Commission" to each article, why not put it in the template? Cleduc 03:06, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] TTC Subway Lines

I moved the page TTC Subway Lines to User:Fat pig73/TTC Subway Lines since it appears that this is a sandbox item. If it's intended as a template, please create it in the Template: space when you're done working on it. Thanks, Kelly Martin 03:10, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Categorizing

I'm not sure if you're clear on the rules for the category system, because you have a tendency to file articles in every last category they could possibly fit (eg. filing a GO Transit station in Category:GO Transit, Category:List of GO Stations, Category:Transportation in Ontario and Category:Regional rail systems). Wikipedia has a very strict policy about not filing articles simultaneously in categories and subcategories of those same categories. An article goes only in the narrowest appropriate category.

A GO Transit station should thus be filed only in Category:GO Transit stations. That category is then filed as a subcategory of the next larger category ("GO Transit"), which is in turn filed under "Transportation in Toronto", "Transportation in the Greater Toronto Area" and "Regional rail systems". And then "Transportation in Toronto" and "Transportation in the Greater Toronto Area" are filed under "Transportation in Ontario". You do not file every individual article in each and every one of those categories. Bearcat 1 July 2005 19:20 (UTC)

Also, don't overload articles with excessive and inappropriate "See also" links (e.g. Rainbow and Magic Lantern Cinemas. It is not necessary to include see also and external links for every movie chain operating in Canada in every individual article. The only external links on the Rainbow Cinemas article should be to pages about Rainbow Cinemas, and the category link itself is sufficient when it comes to linking to other chains. (And going back to GO Transit stations, for that matter, it's not necessary to add a "See also GO Transit" link if you've already linked to GO Transit in the article body.) Bearcat 2 July 2005 01:15 (UTC)

[edit] Roads on AfD

Some road articles you created were nominated for deletion recently (by me). I felt that I should inform you of this. The roads in question are Coxwell Avenue, Denison Street, Eastern Avenue (Toronto), Neville Park Boulevard, and Transit Road. Another road, Midland Avenue is also up for deletion, though it was created by User:64.229.26.133 (is this you when you gorgot to login? the edits look similar to yours...) Anyway, you can find the nomination at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Toronto-area roads, so make sure you add your input. If you have any questions, please leave a message here, or on my talk page. Mindmatrix 00:26, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] More roads on AfD

Hi again, a few more road articles you created are on AfD. They are: Wilson Avenue (Toronto) and Pemberton Avenue. Additionally, three more roads were included in that batch: Brimley Road. Birchmount Road and Parkwoods Village Drive (Toronto). See the Toronto-area roads (group 2) AfD for the details, and to add your vote. Mindmatrix 17:39, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Simpson's

I wanted to inform you that I nominated your article Robert Simpson's Department Stores for deletion. There already is a Simpson's article. Skeezix1000 13:24, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Canadian police forces

While the articles are interesting, could you please try to follow Wikipedia procedures when creating them, including bolding in the right places and categorising correctly. And please don't add those tables - they're ugly, inaccurate and pointless and I will delete them. Thanks. -- Necrothesp 21:39, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] See also sections in articles

Hi, could you please stop adding See also sections to articles when they aren't truly necessary. For example, this is not needed since all those articles are linked to from the category Category:Law enforcement agencies of Ontario, which is itself included in the article. Also, please don't add self-refenrtial links; that is, links to the article itself - they serve no purpose. Mindmatrix 17:39, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Rochester Subway rolling stock?

One of the external links had a picture of a car on the line. It was clearly just a streetcar.

Can I ask where you got the information that they used full size Metro cars? -- Geo Swan 12:21, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Hello. When creating a new article, please remember that the first time the title appears in the text, it should be surrounded by three apostrophes on each side, '''like this'''. The Wiki software makes the text between the apostrophes come out in bold, like this. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style for other formatting conventions. Thank you. [edit] Image Tagging Image:5f88.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:5f88.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Succession boxes

Hi, I was wondering about the succession boxes you've been putting on articles like John Strachan and Family Compact. Traditionally those boxes are for individuals serving in some political office, but "leader of the Family Compact" was not an office or anything more than general recognition...and I don't know what "Canadian Tory" is supposed to be on Family Compact, I don't think it's very useful to link it to actual conservative political parties later on, is it? I just find that these boxes don't make sense. Adam Bishop 04:02, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:DSC01323.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. [edit] New York City Subway BMT Q car

Hello, and first off I'd like to thank you for your work on pages about various New York City Subway cars. I recently visited the New York Transit Museum and took some pictures of out-of-service cars on display there. I have a question about one of them, the Q-type Queens car: on the page you wrote (Q-type Queens car (New York City Subway car)), it says the car builder was a company called Peckham. However, on a picture I took of the sign next to the car, which I have uploaded to Wikipedia and is located at BMTQcarSign.JPG, if you zoom in you can see that it says the manufacturer was "Jewett Car Company." Can you please give me the source, if possible, that gave you "Peckham" as the manufacturer so we can resolve this? Thanks. Bobburito 01:18, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scajaquada

I don't know if you are aware of the New York state highways WikiProject, but I invite you to check it out as it seems you could make some contributions.

In the meantime, though, you created a bit of a mess in renaming New York State Route 198 that I am going to have to undo somehow before going to bed. Articles that are about named highways that also are signed and have the same coterminous route number are titled according to the route number, not their name.

This is the only Buffalo highway this rule applies to. I tried to move it back but I can't for some reason (it is necessary to preserve the page's edit history).

If you plan on creating any more articles about WNY numbered roads, please keep this in mind. Daniel Case 04:45, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

I also just undid your renaming of New York State Route 33 to Kensington Expressway. This was a little more serious, as the text in the article makes pretty clear that the Kensington is but a small stretch of a road that runs between Buffalo and Rochester. That's being a little too bold. Remember to look before you leap. Daniel Case 05:12, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:OBI Orion VII CNG 2.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:OBI Orion VII CNG 2.JPG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

I reverted your change that added a list of Macau casinos to the article. These are all listed in the Category at the end of the article. [edit] Cecilia Im article

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Cecilia Im, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Importance). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Cecilia Im. Hi. Please do not file articles in both a category and a sub-category, like you did here ([2]). Fast-food chains of Canada is a subcategory of Food companies of Canada, and it is inappropriate to file an article in both. Wikipedia has a very strict policy about not filing articles simultaneously in categories and subcategories of those same categories. An article goes only in the narrowest appropriate category. This has already been pointed out to you on your talk page. Thanks. --Skeezix1000 19:53, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Canadian Parliamentry Secretary (sic)

Hello. Please kindly make sure of the accuracy and proper spelling of your edits before you upload them. This is particularly important when you are creating articles. None of us are perfect, by any means, but avoiding typos in the article name itself is very important. And again, please do not categorize articles in both a main category and a sub-category, as you did in this article. When you are not careful with your spelling or your categorisation, other editors are required to put a lot of time and effort cleaning up after you. Thanks. --Skeezix1000 13:06, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Accuracy

Please point any mistakes if I have saying anything wrong. City Garden seem to be a hotel and private housing development with a garden open to public rathan than a garden alone. It is in Fortress Hill, North Point, not in Causeway Bay. Also, There is no such place called "Pacific Pallisades Gardens". There is "Pacific Palisades" in Braemar Hill. Again, it is a private housing estate. It is good that you are working hard on editing; it is better if you can do little more research on the edits when you upload it. Many thanks. [edit] Duplicate Categ CfD

Hi: You created the duplicate category Category:Israeli Defence Force since Category:Israel Defense Forces already exists. See Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 September 15#Category:Israeli Defence Force. Please be more careful in the future to check that duplicates are not created. Thanks. [edit] about Chinese supreme court

Hi, I notice that you translate zh:高级人民法院 as Supreme People's Court (Provincial) and translate zh:中级人民法院 as High People's Court. I think that 高级人民法院 is usually translated as "High People's Court" or "Higher People' Court", and 中级人民法院 is usually translated as "Intermediate People's Court". I am considering move the current articles to their proper names. Please let me know your opinions. Thanks for your contributions. --Neo-Jay 13:48, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Companies

Articles are not to be filed in Category:Companies of Canada if they're already in subcategories such as Category:Financial services companies of Canada or Category:Manufacturing companies of Canada. Would you please start paying attention to these things when people mention them to you? Because I know this isn't the first time I've had to remind you how Wikipedia's category structure works. [edit] Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea

I note that you began this article. However, the SC of PNG is not actually a separately constituted court: like the Full Courts of the Supreme Courts the Australian States and formerly of the Supreme Courts of the Canadian Provinces (before the creation of the provincial Courts of Appeal early in the 20th century), it is an ad hoc tribunal consisting of judges of the National Court who are empanelled from time to time to hear specific appeals and references. The Chief Justice and the Registrar are "of the Supreme and National Courts"; the puisne justices are not actually referred to as justices of the Supreme Court. This article should really be renamed "Supreme and National Courts of Papua New Guinea" since discussion of the work of the SC in an article of its own is somewhat artificial given that it is actually an appellate committee. I, alas, don't know how to do this. Can you manage it? Masalai 00:03, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] link to British

Hello, when you want to link to the article about something British, please do not link to British, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as United Kingdom, Great Britain or British English by writing out [[United Kingdom|British]] or [[Great Britain|British]]. Regards, Jeff3000 01:26, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Toronto City Council

Please don't repeat entire lists of people unnecessarily as you did in Toronto City Council. There was no need for you to add a "Current Councillors" list in addition to the table that was already present in the article (and already updated with the new councillors anyway). Bearcat 05:11, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] H. James Jones

Would you please pay attention when people tell you how to apply categorization on Wikipedia? Bearcat 03:14, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

  • It's not a great idea to delete warnings and requests from your talk page. The better approach would be to actually respond. Skeezix1000 17:26, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
