[edit] walking across the bridge??

Why is it banned to walk across the bridge? How are the poor people supposed to reach the other shore without a car?

Taking the question seriously: For pedestrians, there is a high risk of attempting suicide by jumping from the bridge. (See Bosporus Bridge). Moreover, it is a highway bridge lying on the Trans European Motorway (TEM) and so not easily reachable by foot from urban areas. There are city busses serving urban areas on the both sides of Bosporus over the bridge. CeeGee 13:47, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dr. William Brown's role in design of Bosporus II

I have heard that the Freeman Fox design of this bridge was not built, and that the design that was built is correctly attributed to Dr. William Brown of Brown Beech. The only real similarity between the two designs is that they are steel suspension bridges. Dr. Brown moved the towers back to their built locations, where they are easier to build and have no structure below the bridge deck. This resulted in a longer span but lower construction cost. While the original designer should be acknowledged, so should Dr. Brown.
