Fatou Diome

Fatou Diome(born 1968, Niodor) is a Senegalese author whose first novel, Le Ventre de l'Atlantique (The Belly of the Atlantic), became a bestseller in France. It concerns life of a Senegalese woman moving to France. She considers herself, and is considered by critics, to be part of the new generation giving women a greater voice in West African literature. She currently lives and studies in Strasbourg. The Belly of the Atlantic will be published in English (translated by Lulu Norman and Ros Schwartz) by Serpent's Tail, London, in September 2006.
