Fated Souls
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- Fated Souls, sometimes abbreviated simply as FS, is a currently on-going role-play taking place via Gaia Online. Fated Souls is a thread based off of common pop culture TV shows and books, a breed of science fiction Fated Souls itself uses.

[edit] Plot
- Fated Souls takes place in the near future, when technology has sunk into a deep recession and begun to rise again, hovercrafts replacing vehicles, plasma replacing [some] bullets. Though the world is very diverse, the story mainly focuses on the events taking place over a course of several days throughout this science fiction universe, outlining the lives of these so-called 'fated souls' that come together and meet due to fate itself to carry on missions that they normally never would have encountered if destiny had not brought them together as such.
- Although much of the basis behind Fated Souls stems from many other science fiction tales, Fated Souls brings something new to the table, encompassing its players within a realm of fantasy that brings plasma to the mix as a modern-day element to everyday life, being of an energy resource (such as for starship engines) but not yet compacted enough to be made into any sort of decent or effective portable weapon.
[edit] Chapter 1 -- Confrontations
- The tale begins off at a hotel entitled the 'Dominya' on a planet which has, so far, been unrevealed. Shadow, an assassin looking for a small break in life, is taking a short leave of absence, sneaking away from his duties to relax and have a good time at the Dominya. As the story begins, Shadow is in his hotel room, contemplating something mystical that has, again, yet to be revealed. His pondering finally completed, he steps into the elevator and heads down to the bottom floor on a direct course for the bar. Seating himself there, he orders a Devil's Advocate and awaits its arrival. He almost receives it when the IPSF (Interplanetary SWAT Force) begins a seemingly random raid of the place with, ironically enough, Shadow's luck failing him once again. A large firefight breaks out between Shadow (who the IPSF seem to want to seize fairly badly) and the authorities, Shadow himself sneaking his way backwards towards the elevator and jetting back up for his room. Almost back to his room to prepare for his escape, more IPSF drones begin to rapel down from the ceiling above him and ambush him from all angles. Luckily, Shadow runs into a mystery-man who is caught in the same dilemma Shadow is and decide to help him, an entire arsenal stored under his coat. The two begin their fight out of the ambush (Kaiser throwing a grenade which rocks the building) -- but end up losing and accept their defeat. The explosion disturbing Maine, a simple girl perched on the roof and gazing over the city, she heads donwstairs only to run right into Shadow and Kaiser about ready to be hauled off to IPSF prisons.
- At this point, they believe Maine has seen too much and is too valuable a witness to let go, so they turn their weapons upon her. Upon seeing this moment of weakness, Shadow and Kaiser obliterate the guards that turned their guns on Maine. Treating Maine as if she were a hostage to them instead of the authorities, now, they do not feel they can let her go for they feel that she knows to much about them already just by seeing their faces -- when it is revealed Kaiser is a fellow assassin as well as Shadow, just usually working opposite galaxies from each other. Acknowledging each other's same profession, Shadow makes an idle threat towards Maine that causes her to reluctantly find the gang a place to stay in the cellar underneath the hotel until the next morning.
- Next day, the team heads out. They figure that to get off the planet they will have to hijack an IPSF cruiser from their nearby shipyard, but in order to do that they would need the passkeys and uniforms from a different IPSF HQ. Leaving the hotel, the group linger around a nearby alley and wait for Kaiser to return from breaking into the headquarters and retrieving their needed materials. Shadow pushes Maine to her limits in the alleyway and a small fight breaks out without drawing too much attention. Kaiser returns with the passkeys and uniforms, they suit up, steal a vehicle, and are off to the local IPSF spaceyard. On the way, a high-speed chase ensues that barely harms Maine, yet Shadow receives a suddenly odd change of heart towards her and helps repair her wound before they arrive at their destination. Heading to the cruiser that can take them to the actual spaceport within the planet's atmosphere to get their actual starcruiser, they are ambushed by a dropship loaded with even more IPSF special ops drones. Dispatching of them, it is notable Maine makes her first kill, a long discussion of morals between the group transpiring afterwards. Deciding their best course of action would be to make it up to the spaceport in the sky as fast as possible, they abandon their attempt to finding their cruiser/shuttle to the spaceport and hijack the dropship instead. Floating upwards towards the station and arriving, they make their way without danger towards their real prize. Before they set off for a new destination, Shadow offers Maine the choice of leaving, but, despite an interior battle amongst her inner self, she accepts and the trio set off in search of a new adventure.
[edit] Chapter 2 -- Kaze, Black Wind of Death
- The team decides to head off to Corellan, a gambler's planet with a very seedy underworld that only appeals to the lowliest of people (or just the highrolles just trying to keep a low-profile) within the known universes. Corellan seemed an easy place to gain some money and stay hidden, so they set course. On the ship cruise to Corellan, the first hint of romance is noted between Shadow and Maine through a simple kiss. Upon arrival at Corellan, things become hectic as they head out into the street below only to be pinned down by an old fellow assassin of Shadow's -- an excellent sniper just-so-happening to be hired by one of the leading generals of the IPSF, General Howard, to dispatch of Shadow and his party. They survive, Shadow only receiving one bullet wound to the shoulder. The encounter stops when an unknown cultist member stealthily approached the sniper from behind along the rooftops and executes him with one perfectly-executed brutal headshot.
- On their way in, they bump into a new character integrated into the series of Fated Souls, noted as 'Kaze, Black Wind of Death' (hence the name of the chapter.) Kaze pushes his way past Kaiser (igniting an immediate feud) and out of the hotel, being pursued by IPSF officials who seem to brush past them as well signaling that Kaze seems to be more notable to them than Shadow, Maine, or Kaiser. Shrugging this off, though, a mishap with the door clerk nets Maine and Shadow having the same room under the stolen name of a married couple, Kaiser being Maine's undercover 'brother'. They make their way to their room, Kaiser heading from the rooms to the bar down the staircase below only to encounter his old friend -- Kaze, collapsing in a pool of his own blood in the center of the staircase. Maine leaving at about the same time, Shadow sits down upon the bed only to be greeted by the bursting open of his room door followed by Maine and Kaiser carrying the body of an unconscious man.
- Shadow doesn't take too kindly to this stranger at all and Kaze simply leaves Shadow alone to go to the bar with Kaiser before he would leave on his way. During the night, much occurs in the form of an adrenaline (a seemingly potent drug of the future) and a mysterious call from another cultist member by the name of 'Adrien Aliane'. Next morning, Shadow brushes off the events of the past night and takes an even more drastic change of heart, asking Maine to help him with some shopping down the strip. Maine enthusiastically obliging, they head out and to multiple stores down the strip until the moon in the very sky above them splits, ready to spiral down into the planet.
- The IPSF station in the atmosphere fired two missiles, one hitting a hotel (the Chalice) nearby the hotel they were currently staying at (the Montreal), the other misfiring and hitting one of Corellan's two moons. The sky seeming to fall around them, they ran back to their teammates still having drinks at the Montreal, heading back to the spacedock where the team's stolen IPSF cruiser was parked the night before. Shadow, clearly outraged, curses to the heavens as to where their cruiser could have possibly disappeared to. An inaudible thought by Kaze alerts the reader to the fact that he unknowingly pawned their cruiser off for quite a bit of cash to an unknown buyer slightly earlier. Shadow's pride crushed, he asks Kaze's help to take his ship, the Phoenix, to yet another destination. At this point, the story introduces the characters of Joe Sargent as well as the character Xianghua, followed by a higher branch of the IPSF referred to as the Archon Galactic Force, or simply shortened to 'IPSF'.
- When the story shifts to Xianghua's point of view, she is blind and must work off her many other senses to get by within the world. Corellan about to explode, she hijacks a cruiser that takes her into the atmosphere quite a distance behind Shadow, Maine, Kaiser, and Kaze. When the story shifts to Joe's point of view, he has just started the case against another organization of cultists that have started blackmailing him into the standard good-cop-gone-bad scenario, threatening him into heading after Shadow to assassinate him. The planet exploding around him as well, Joe takes governmental public transportation by spacecruiser for the same planet as Xianghua and the main characters.
[edit] Chapter 3 -- Crash-Course In Disaster
- June 16, 2006 – November 6, 2006: Chapter 3
- Everybody, the main team, Xianghua, and Joe, who decides to flee the imploding planet of Corellan decide to make their new destination Terratine, a planet consisting of over 65% desert, 25% snowy terrain, and 15% marshland, protected by a giant forcefield-like bubble, an IPSF station guarding the only entrance into the planet's atmosphere. Once they arrive at the station, they nearly smooth-talk their way through but raise some sort of alarm within the station and are shot down, the Phoenix burning up upon too fast of a re-entry into the planet's atmosphere. They crashland into the desert below and continue to skid, tossing about the crew inside the Phoenix as the ship plummets over a ledge and into the marshland below.
- Mid-freefall, Shadow begins his way down the elevator from the bridge and starts down the hallway to make his way to Maine and Kaze in the med-bay until a large portion of the Phoenix's corridor's ceiling collapses down upon Shadow, his person having multiple flashbacks and mind tricks that he imagines of himself being thrown backwards into the elevator shaft and crushed under the weight of the elevator losing connections to its cables above him. Kaze makes it out the backway once events transpire that cause Maine and Shadow to land at the bottom of the shaft together. Shadow, badly injured due to falling debris, finds a maintenance duct and the two escape via that. Once out, though, Shadow confronts one of his old unit, Phantom, part of his old IPSF unit, 'Delta Unit'. As the face-off occurs, Maine makes her way out of the ship afterwards and is snatched up by a speeding corvette. Coupled by the many cracks of gunshots, Shadow seemingly topples Phantom and hijacks his lightcycle, rendezvous’' with Kaze, picks him up, and is on immediate pursuit of the kidnapping corvette.
- Kaze flips into the corvette through insanely acrobatic stunts, pulling his gun and ready to shoot the driver, Maine seated to Kaze's right. Phantom, somehow recovered, finds another lightcycle and pursues the team through this marshland-turned-jungle until Phantom lands a shot against Shadow's lightcycle that propels him forward towards the corvette, Shadow clinging perilously onto the side. Once the corvette gains enough altitude, the driver presses a button that opens the cargo bay door from the back and with one swift movement the driver pushes Kaze out the back, Kaze himself freefalling for the ground below. Maine, shocked and angry, pulls Shadow into the vehicle. Shadow primes a deadly grenade from his belt as a threat towards the driver, Shadow in too bad shape to do anything worthwhile with his weapons that were mainly lost due to his face-off and stunts along the side of the corvette.
- Maine reveals that the driver called her Alice before Shadow arrived and that her best childhood friend was the only one who knew her by that name. She pleads that the driver, revealed to be Kisa to the party, is really a good person at heart and is only looking out for her. Shadow begging to differ, he holds the grenade perilously to his side, threatening to bring them all down with him. Shadow eventually caves under the pressure and hands Maine the grenade, her and Kisa sliding into the front seat of the craft to launch into the atmosphere while the bottom half, with Shadow inside, turned into a smoldering blue fireball that rocketed across the sky and into the desert outside the nearby Outpost Theta.
- One of Shadow's old teammates (who has no idea of his shady IPSF ties), the one-armed assassin known to everybody as 'Caveman', saves the day by cruising up in his own corvette and rescuing Kaze as well as Shadow, bringing them back to his abode back within the outskirts of Outpost Theta and helping nurse the party back to health. When the story shifts to Xianghua, she arrives on Terratine to meet her old friend Rai. Rai gets drunk and leaves and Xianghua sets off in pursuit after him, only to crash within the sandy dunes outside of Theta and taken to a nearby hospital back within the city. As for Joe, his craft crash-lands within the jungle and he fights his way back to the road where Kaiser, escaping the Phoenix much earlier than anybody else via the bridge, captures him and takes him back to Outpost Theta, using him to gain access to one of the outposts within the city named "Outpost Theta", a primarily IPSF/AGF-themed outpost. Joe, taken into the back of an IPSF van without Kaiser noticing, gets taken out of the city, but something is sabotaged with the rigging of the van and it soars over the cliff into the swampland below, killing Joe.
- The GTC, or Galactic Trade Confederation, another branch of the IPSF, comes into play within this chapter as well, apparently issuing orders to an IPSF-recruited mock-terrorist organization to keep order and mayhem frequent within the city of Outpost Theta itself.
- Once Caveman takes the group back to his hideout within the city, they rest up and exchange how they've been doing thus far, Shadow introducing Kaze to his friend as a formality. They decide upon the course of action that Shadow will stop by and see a friend of his at a junkyard along the outskirts of town to get that friend of his to hoist Kaze's 'Phoenix' back into town to begin repairs. They also decide that once Shadow has been dropped off at the junkyard that Kaze and Caveman will head to the IPSF outpost within the city of 'Outpost Theta' itself to rescue Kaiser upon a hunch of theirs.
- As Shadow has been dropped off at the scrapyard, he heads inside and meets up with his junkyard-friend, Zephyr, he not only brings Shadow the clothing, CD player, and case of adrenaline plus syringes he left back on Corellan before the planet exploded, but a handful of cash that Shadow supposedly was awarded by The Agency as a generous compensation fund for indisclosed reasons to this point.
[edit] Chapter 4 -- Revenge Against Purity Leaves Disgrace
- November 6, 2006 - On-going: Chapter 4
- Neriah arrives on the scene, hiding amongst the wreckage of the junkyard in eager wait of Zephyr in order for them to finish an illegal weapons-trade transaction. Shadow accompanies Zephyr, weapons drawn, to the spot only to find Neriah doesn't take too kindly to force. Amidst a small showdown of sorts, it is revealed to each other (Shadow and Neriah) who each really are, only to find out that they had in fact had relations before this event. After a short catching-up-on-each-other's-lives sort of talk, they begin their way back to the building where Zephyr and Shadow had conducted their business slightly earlier.
- During their travel back, a series of flashbacks occur that reveal some of Shadow's past history, officially confirming that 'Shadow' is a codename since some spy-style missions he incurred back-when and that his real first name is 'James'. It is also revealed through the first flashback that during this time period a more neatly trimmed Shadow, uniform and all, was walking down the hall and talking to Howard about the corruption they had influenced upon the place, only to meet up with Wolcott who reveals that Howard has been promoted to Wolcott's previous position and that, unfortunately, Shadow is being placed back into Delta Unit. The second flashback takes place shortly after the first flashback, detailing Shadow's situation of heading back up to his room and taking a momentary shower, only to be interrupted by a call from Howard. Howard has a proposition for him -- he's convinced Wolcott to allow Shadow not to be demoted back down to Delta Unit but nearly maintain his current rank and work as a spy, gathering information, granting him a new name (being 'Shadow') as well as a new identity and persona. The third flashback takes place prior to the first, revealing that not only Howard had a hand in framing Kaze for the destruction of the entire planet of Dessanu -- but Shadow also had a hand in it, as well. Though, back then, they had never seen a picture of Kaze and only knew him by 'Black Wind of Death', to this day Shadow doesn't know, for he hasn't heard it mentioned, that Kaze is who he really is.
- Switching perspectives to Caveman and Kaze, Caveman receives a warning call from Shadow that the city is on lockdown for one reason or another and it is suggested that they watch their backs and keep their distance from the mission at hand (saving Kaiser.) Caveman shrugs it off and manages to get an IPSF uniform plus disguise to Kaze. Kaze puts on the uniform and the two split their separate ways -- Kaze heads into the heart of the compound, Caveman heads up the fire escape of a building near the IPSF central compound of Outpost Delta to gain the highground.
- The story switching back to Shadow and Zephyr, Neriah, on her way back to the building, collapses due to the strain of some virus she had already encountered previously and knew she already had, and enters a comatose-like state, placing her completely at the hands of Shadow and Zephyr themselves. Shadow comes up with the ingenious plot to have Zephyr escape with Neriah while Shadow proves to be a distraction. Zephyr agrees and carries Neriah off, still unconscious, through the backroom. Shadow, meanwhile, exchanges ammunition and gets into a mini-firefight with AGF forces he at first mistakes for IPSF officers.
- After the short battle, Shadow winds up bleeding, injured, and face-down on the ground, hands cuffed behind his back. Escorted back outside, an AGF officer finds the suitcase of adrenaline he had been hiding as well. The officers, now bringing him up on 'possession' charges in addition to being Wanted across the galaxy, are taking Shadow to General Wolcott for questioning. It is also revealed near this part that Shadow's full name is indeed "James Kerstov".
- Bleeding profusely, Shadow loses consciousness on his way up the spacestation where the AGF / IPSF plan to imprison him before interrogation. Coming to once his face hits the cold, stone floor, he realizes he has a cellmate. His name is Aritad, and it is brought about that the reason he's locked up and sentenced for immediate execution is because General Wolcott (of AGF fame) wished him and the rest of the squad he was with to open fire on local civilians during field training. Of course, Aritad refused and decided to shoot Wolcott back -- but a squadmate knocked him off last second, the bullet only heading into Wolcott's thigh. He was knocked out and brought to this spacestation above Terratine.
- Shortly after that, Shadow gets brought in for interrogation where Wolcott believes Shadow knows something that he, in fact, does not. After some pointless torture for some non-existant information, Shadow is brought back to the cell and thrown inside. Forming a childish plan to get them out, Aritad literally drops his trousers at the IPSF guard, causing the guard, in a rage, to lower the field and step inside. Shadow and Aritad disarm him knock and knock him unconscious, stealing his rubber-bullet firearm. Fighting their way down the hall, they pick up some AGF officers's SMG's and head into the lift, en route to the armory on the floor above them.

- Wallace -- Zephyr’s junkyard partner and also helps recover the Phoenix from the swampland of Terratine.
- Bruce 492-C -- Wallace’s little robotic companion that helps him through his long and tedious tasks.
**Note** Although the AGF is technically a branch of the IPSF, ever since Chapter 3 have the two been versing each other rather than working together.
