Fatale was a comic book published by Broadway Comics in 1995 starring Desirée Hopewell, the female protagonist known eponymously as Fatale. According to creator Jim Shooter, Fatale was inspired from men and women comparing their experiences with strong women. The aim was to create as much realism in the character as possible while portraying a strong and resourceful woman. [citation needed]

Contrary to the trend popular big-chested female characters that had become a trademark of companies like Image Comics and Chaos Comics, particularly in the 1990s, who were often criticized for being not being illustrated realistically or with anatomicaly accuracy, Fatale was given depicted in accordance with how gravity naturally influences a top-heavy woman, and by dressing her in normally attire instead of the spandex normally seen on superheroes. Several times through the series, remarks about her breast size were made, making fun of the way both men and women react to attractive women with big breasts.
