[edit] Slang Term

Fat cat is slang term which describes a rich, greedy person who, due to ownership of large amounts of capital, is able to "live easy" off the work of others. Often, those labeled "fat cats" will reap a sustantial financial gain from a business, while the business itself, and the people who are employed by it, do not. The term is also sometimes used to refer disparagingly to wealthy contributors to a political campaign. The term stems off from the fact that since rich people can buy a lot of food, they both tend to resemble each other, the owner and the cat, in girth of waist, haughtiness, and a holier-than-thou attitude.

Fat cat imagery is commonly used in editorial cartoons.

[edit] Sandwich

Fat Cats are also very popular sub style sandwiches that are sold in the areas surrounding Rutgers University in New Jersey. These sandwiches are famous the world over and have appeared on Food Network TV shows many times. It has also been rated #51 in the 100 things you should do before you graduate college by Sports illustrated. One of the variants, the Fat Darrell, was also voted the best sandwich in the United States by Maxim magazine in their August 2004 issue.[1]

A Fat Cat is composed of two cheeseburgers stuffed into a sub roll with lettuce, tomato, French fries, ketchup, and mayo. There are many other versions of these sandwiches all starting with the name “Fat” i.e. Fat KoKo, Fat Dad, Fat Korean, Fat Darrel, etc. They may contain different items such as, chicken fingers or Philly Cheesesteaks instead of cheeseburgers, and mozzarella sticks or jalapeño poppers instead of French fries. The makers of Fat sandwiches will generally make a sandwich out of anything a customer requests, provided they have it on hand. The Fat Cat, however, was the original.

Fat Cat is also the name of a mascot which was once the flavour of the month at rugby league team Halifax RLFC.
