[edit] Description
Fat Chocobo is yellow in color, much like the chocobos ridden by the characters. He is very much similar to these chocobos, except for his size. Fat Chocobo is much larger than the regular chocobos. In Final Fantasy IV, he takes up four floor tiles while a regular chocobo takes up one. His eyes seem to always be partially closed.
In Final Fantasy IX, Fat Chocobo looks slightly different. While still large in size, his eyes are completely closed, he wears a crown-like hat, and he stands upright like a human.
In Final Fantasy III he appeared white.
[edit] Appearances
[edit] Final Fantasy III
In his first appearance of the series, Fat Chocobo(Also known as Chubby Chocobo) is an intelligent chocobo which you can summon with a "Gisahl Vegetable" in a Chocobo Forest, in areas where it "smells like chocobo". There is also a Fat Chocobo aboard the 'Invincible', the airship, where a Vegetable vending machine can be found. Fat Chocobo has many stomachs, so he can assist the party by swallowing their items. This is used as a method of item storage so that the party does not run out of inventory space. Fat Chocobo can regurgitate the swallowed items when the party needs them again. The only things Fat Chocobo will not swallow are special items, such as plot items. This decision was made to prevent the party from getting stuck in a place where the item would be needed.
[edit] Final Fantasy IV
In Final Fantasy IV, Fat Chocobo plays the same role as in the previous title, except for one detail. Later in the game, the party will obtain Gysahl Whistles, which allows them to call Fat Chocobo from anywhere.
When called in a Chocobo Forest (Or at the location of the Dwarven Castle where it smells like chocobo) by Gysahl Greens, Fat Chocobo's entrance is noted with a text box saying "Enter Fat Chocobo!", and he greets you with a happy "Hello! What do you want?".
Fat Chocobo dislikes it when the party calls him in a cave or dungeon, exclaiming "Hey! Don't use that here!"
A Fat Chocobo can be found on-board the Lunar Whale, the party's final airship that allows travel to the moon. He is always there, the party does not need to call him.
[edit] Final Fantasy V
When the "Chocobo" summon is used in battle, there is a chance that a Fat Chocobo will attack instead of the normal chocobo.
[edit] Final Fantasy VII
Fat Chocobo makes a cameo appearance, showing up sometimes when a character summons Choco/Mog. Fat Chocobo appears in battle with the player is facing a single enemy (as opposed to the regular Chocobo which appears against multiple enemies). He falls from the sky and crushes enemies, causing heavy wind-elemental damage.
[edit] Final Fantasy VIII
Appears on a card for the Triple Triad card game under the name 'Chubby Chocobo'. Can be refined into 100 Luv Luv G.
[edit] Final Fantasy IX
In this game, Fat Chocobo is seen as king of all chocobos, ruler of the hidden Chocobo's Paradise. His home is the final location that Zidane must help Choco and his friend Mene, the moogle, find through Chocographs, tablets similar to treasure maps.
Some of the Chocographs take Choco to a dream world, where Fat Chocobo blesses him with new powers that let him cross different types of terrain, including shallow water, mountains, all types of water, and eventually gives the power of flight when requirements are met. Flying on Choco is the only way to get to the Chocobo's Paradise.
Fat Chocobo is also an avid Tetra Master player. He holds the rare Boco, Fat Chocobo, and Chocobo cards.
[edit] Chocobo Racing
Chubby Chocobo is a main character in Chocobo Racing. He rides a bicycle called the Phat-Burner Plus, and his default ability is to receive magical stones used on him.
