Talk:Farkel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As this is the perfect game for large gatherings of family members or friends and the holidays are here, I suggest to anyone to play this wonderfully exciting game. It is slightly similar to Yahtzee, a family based boardgame of dice, but more closely similar to Craps. Farkel is best played from 5-10 players as it surely raises the intensity of this game and will positively lead to 2 or more people battling it out for the glory of"Farkel Champion". All newcomers are welcome to this game as it is not just an adult oriented game and the rules are fairly simple.Just this Thanksgiving my mother's family and I got together at my Uncle's house and had an extremely fun hour of this game, and soon 2-3 family members were "duking" it out to claim the renowned "Farkel Trophy" our family had created. As the tradition lives on whoever was to gain 10,000 points could attain the pride of putting their picture and miscellaneous item onto the prized trophy. I persaude to anyone to bring 6 dice with them to their next family garthering, get the rules/information needed to play this game also, maybe open some eggnog and pie... and your ready to get a guaranteed jubilee.
[edit] Scoring variation
In the rules that we use, each player must score 1000 points to get on the table (or "on the board" as we call it). Also, we score 6 of a kind as 10,000 points. 6 of a kind would effectively be an automatic win, although just tonight I witnessed a 9000 point roll for a come-back in the final round from 1800 to 10,800. It was AMAZING. A2Z 05:08, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
We use a variation of the rules that allow you to "bank" your points if you have a roll remaining. The next player can elect to either start over with all 6 dice or start with the same number of points that you just "banked" and continue your turn if they are brave enough. In addition, you only get one roll even if you have only one die remaining to roll. For example, say you roll 3 threes on the first roll, and a one each on the next two rolls, which leaves you with a single die on the fourth roll. You may "bank" the 300 + 100 + 100 = 500 points and then elect not to roll the single die in fear of a farkle (and wind up with no points this turn). The next player can elect to start over with 6 dice or continue your turn with 500 points and the one roll of a single die if they are brave enough.
