Farragut Career Academy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Farragut Career Academy, part of the Chicago Public School system, serves the Little Village and North Lawndale communities on west side of Chicago, Illinois. The school is named for Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, naval hero of the American Civil War. As a Career Academy, Farragut emphasizes a curriculum that combines academic instruction with work-study experiences and vocational training. In addition to Education-To-Careers clusters, Farragut is also home to the General Patton JROTC program which functions as a school-within-a-school. To expand the opportunities available to our students, Farragut maintains strong partnerships with local business and other community organizations. Among Farragut’s more unique facilities are an on-site community law clinic and an on-site health services center, which was designed and built primarily by Farragut students. Rounding out our school’s curriculum is a wide array of extracurricular and athletic activities.

[edit] Education to Careers

Education-To-Careers (ETC) clusters are more than just vocational training; ETC prepares students for their lives beyond the classroom by equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in post secondary education, advanced career training or immediate entry into jobs with a meaningful career path. ETC programs combine a rigorous high school academic curriculum with training in career and technical subjects and workplace competencies. Farragut's ETC programs include Culinary Arts, Medical Assistant, Fashion Design, Automotive Technology, Carpentry and Cabinet Making, and Cosmetology.
