Farm to Market Road 511 or FM 511 is a road that runs from U.S. Highways 77 and 83 in Olmito, TX to the southern sections of Brownsville, TX. The highway forms an outer loop/bypass of the main portion of Brownsville. This highway is known locally as the Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. Highway. The highway is expected to be expanded to a 4 lane divided highway from Highway 77/83 to just south of FM 3248. This project is currently planned to begin in August 2007[1].

[edit] History

F.M. 511 was originally designated in 1945 from Highway 83 in Olmito to State Highway 4 near the Port of Brownsville. In the late 1940's, it was extended no the north side to include a 5 mile section to the west near Olmito, and on the south side to extend into Brownsville. In 1957, this section west of Olmito was transferred to F.M. 1732.
