Fantasy cricket

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With fantasy cricket, as with any other fantasy sport, the fantasy owner (called "captain") gets a chance to be the captain of his or her own team.

Fantasy cricket tournaments often mirror the actual cricket contests of International Cricket Council member countries.

ICC member countries usually play cricket in head-to-head contests (such as Ashes) or tri-nation contests (such as DLF Cup). Once every two years or so, a major cricket tournament is held which draws more teams. Once every four years, ICC hosts a World Cup which draws all qualified cricket playing countries.

[edit] How does it work?

Fantasy tournaments are nearly always aligned with global cricket contests. USA based dreamcricket.com has offered the most tournaments to date and continues to expand its tournament calendar by expanding to first class/county cricket.

The fantasy tournament organizer publishes the full list of teams that are set to play ahead of each tournament. The fantasy captain then selects his or her team from the available pool of players for a tournament and follows their performance.

A captain always starts with a fixed amount of capital ($10,000) to invest. Each player in the tournament has a pre-assigned value that is derived from various factors like the form of the player and the market value of the player.

Within the $10,000 limit, the captain has to make prudent investment choices given the current market condition. The captain is allowed to make trades during the trading period. The current market status of each tournament is provided as the tournament progresses.

Fantasy cricket is gaining in popularity across the world. Paid fantasy cricket too is gaining ground as cricket users are exposed to other fantasy sports and office leagues become more popular.

[edit] Office pools for fantasy cricket

Not many websites support this although several forums have supported this internally. dreamcricket.com has a popular office league pool concept which is available for free to office pool organizers.
