Talk:FALSE

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hmm.

After spending a fair bit of time on this article, very shortly thereafter I find FALSE programming language (independently at about the same time the merge tag is added). Guess I should have looked harder for the article first - thought I had safely concluded that there wasn't one.

It seems like FALSE should be the name of the article. There's nothing else that should be at this page (distinctively all-caps) - I think that the language's name should be all caps. It is in the reference manual. Though it isn't anywhere at the actual web page. Well, if it is meant to be all caps, that should make the 'programming language' bit unneccessary. Also I think (arguably egotistically) that my article is better and the other one should be merged here, not the other way around. It is, at least, certainly bigger.

Opinions? I suppose I'll work on merging them. Someone else should tell me where the article should be. -ethan (talk) 03:55, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Hello, Ethan0. I'm the one who put the merge tag on, so I figured I should speak up! I changed the bolded name in the article to False because it was consistently typeset like that in the web pages. Perhaps it was written as FALSE in the docs because the typographical options in plaintext are fairly limited. :) Anyway, if it is decided that it should be referred to as FALSE, I agree that this name should be used for the article, since False programming language is annoyingly long. There should probably be a link at the top to get people to the concept of false (see Truth) if the article is kept at this name. HorsePunchKid 2005-10-21 04:29:09Z
I think I have found resolution.

Mr. van Oortmerssen,
I was wondering if you could tell me which capitalization for the language is correct, False or FALSE. In the manual it is consistently all-caps, but on the rest of its web site, consistently only the first letter is capitalized. I am trying to resolve the correct capitalization so that the wikipedia article on the language can be correctly titled.
Thank you,
Ethan

FALSE is probably more correct, I tend to be inconsistent with names myself.
Other notes: "according to van oortmerssen"... is there any material that disputes it?
"strlen.com/false" is a more permanent external url than the one you have now.

So FALSE is the one to merge into. Any objection? -Ethan (talk) 04:42, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
Great work, contacting him! Be bold; go for it! ;) HorsePunchKid 2005-10-22 05:23:43Z
