Talk:Faith-based

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Faith by definition requires that one must believe without proof or reason. Often the very questioning of a belief is prohibited by faith based religions. Doubt based belief systems requires that one question everything. It invites scientific principles to test if a belief is in fact true. Doubting creates accountability, integrity, and responsibility in the belief process. Doubt based belief systems which require proof and scrutiny are the oppisite of faith based belief system which prohibit scrutiny. --Marcperkel 06:17, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] What does a watergate burgler have to do with faith?

Don't understand why user:weyes insists on like faith-based to Nixon's crooks. Seems to me to be putting down people of faith. --Marcperkel 07:54, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Actually, that link was already here. The article on him suggests he was notable for his work with faith-based organisations, so it makes sense to me to link him. --W(t) 07:58, 2005 Jun 8 (UTC)
What does it have to do with faith based religion? Linking Nixon criminals to faith is insulting to people of faith.--Marcperkel 08:09, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Chuck Colson is two things: Watergate (in the past) and Faith-based prisons (now). The relevance is this: it helps to frame (as in define the style and context, as opposed to incriminate) the kind of leadership that would resort to "faith-based" to advanced their objectives. Unfair? Maybe, but he is major player in both.

I conceed that the Colson link that I added is an obscure reference. I added link to the Texas faith-based prison. Some would view this as mixing church and state and blah blah blah, so I think it is an appropriate link. Amorrow 04:17, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
