Fairy Idol is a Fairly OddParents movie, which premiered on May 19, 2006. The title and plot parody the television show American Idol. On the film's premiere night, 3 million viewers tuned in to watch the show.

The movie starts with Norm the Genie, frustrated with his life as a Genie; his masters have been consistently "lame", their wishes unimaginative and his lamp barely inhabitable. While waiting for the third wish to come from the Mayor of Dimmsdale, Norm reads a copy of Da Rules given to him by Cosmo and by chance finds that if any Godparent quits his or her assignment or Godparenting in general, the vacancy is open to any magical, wish-granting creature in the universe. Knowing that Cosmo and Wanda are the easiest to convince, and wishing for the personal freedom of a fairy, Norm then prepares a wish for the Mayor that includes a stipulation placing Norm near Timmy.

Chester finds Norm's lamp, and, after a pre-emptive free wish, wishes that Timmy had more time to hang out. Norm reveals the wish to Timmy, providing a clone to fill in for him to the rest of the world while he spends time with Chester; and to his Godparents, distracting them with a "Hunky Chocolate Candy Bar" for Wanda and a piece of string for Cosmo. The clone, however, is surlier and meaner than the real Timmy, who had been more selfish than normal recently. The real Timmy returns home to see his Godparents quit, Norm gloat, and Jorgen arrive to reclaim the fairies and wipe his memory. After the clone is thrown in the closet Timmy hides in, he manages to kick the clone out of the closet and have it take the memory loss. Nonetheless, Timmy is left with no Godparents and all the toys and goods he attained through them disappears.

In Fairy World, Cosmo and Wanda say they didn't want to quit being Godparents, they just wanted to quit being Timmy's Godparents. Regardless, Jorgen proclaims that the decision of the new fairy will be determined with "a super fantabulous singing contest". Norm, seeing some news articles about Chester's father and his failed baseball career, convinces Chester to wish for fame, ability and success for his father in order to keep him busy during the contest.

The contest begins, with several past characters as contestants, including the Tooth Fairy, the April Fool, Juandissimo Magnifico, Cupid, and Sanderson the Pixie. Timmy sneaks into Crocker's fairy research lab, uses a sleeping gas grenade on him and uses his recently designed and functional Fairy World portal. The April Fool's ejection from the studio and his collision with the guard serves as Timmy's chance to enter. After being caught and caged by two guards, Timmy dons a set of Crocker's clothes (much of it designed to fight magic) and escapes, catching Cosmo and Wanda in a butterfly net in order to get a chance to apologize; although Cosmo is easy enough to win over, Wanda is hesitant. Juandisimo Magnifico sings a remix that says I'm to sexy for my sexy!

At the end of the competition, Cosmo and Wanda (by extension) are the winners; however, Norm uses the butterfly net to prevent them from using magic, then aims a wrecking ball at them to incapacitate them, making him the winner by default and causing him to be assigned to the saddest child on earth. After a long satellite scan, that child is revealed to be Chester, whose success wish had backfired, first when his dad's fame kept him apart from him (similar to Timmy's scenario in the episode "Odd Jobs"), then when their riches were repossessed and Mr. McBadbat jailed due to massive debt. Norm's first granted wishes make the world worse, more due to Chester's carelessness than Norm's spite.

While Timmy and his former Godparents are walking home before they must separate for good, Chester sees him crying and wishes for Norm to be transferred to him. When Norm reveals his grand plan, Timmy refuses to wish for anything for two weeks, the requisite time for a fairy to explode from magical buildup. Norm promises to grant a wish properly if he is returned to normal, but quits Godparenting before granting the wish out of spite. Jorgen once again returns to wipe Timmy's memory, but Chester, who still is owed one wish from Norm as a genie, which he uses to revert everything to the point before he found Norm's lamp. Norm is returned to the lamp, and Timmy (who has learned to be considerably less selfish) is reunited with his Godparents. Unfortunately, he leaves them alone for twenty-four hours so he can hang out with Chester, and they end up exploding at the show's end as a result.

Bo Bice, American Idol season four runner-up, hosted the Nickelodeon airing on May 19, 2006 in the U.S., as he "knows something about" these kinds of contests.
Cosmo holds up a video of "How to sing like Diana DeGarmo". DeGarmo, Idol season three runner-up, then performed Cosmo's singing voice.
Denzel Crocker tries to get back to Fairy World via a Stargate SG-1-like teleporter.
According to the Fairy Idol online poll hosted at Nick.com, Cosmo was the winner with over 300,000 votes.
In the opening session of Fairy Idol, Butch Hartman and the rest of the staff of The Fairly Oddparents are shown as fairies.
The lawn gnome's performance, "We're not Pixies", is an obvious reference to "School's Out: The Musical".
Due to scheduling conflicts, Norm MacDonald was unable to reprise his role as Norm the Genie; he was replaced by Robert Cait.
For the first time in the series, Chester's Dad, Bucky McBadbat's face is shown in reality.
Jorgen Von Strangle uses the Men in Black style mind eraser (now with forget-a-cin) in this episode; last seen in "The Secret Origin of Denzel Crocker".
Redman had Sanderson's rapping voice in School's Out instead of Method Man who did Head Pixie's rapping voice.
According to Norm, the three most common wishes for a genie are 1) something stupid, like a giant sandwich, 2) something involving money and/or power, which inevitably gets the wisher in trouble, and 3) to change everything back to normal.
Timmy loses his godparents for good in this feature, which has happened in every single Fairly Oddparents movie to date.
In this feature we learn of another way someone can lose their fairies -when the fairies quit.
Before Cosmo sings, Jorgen says that he cannot do a duet with Wanda. This is strange since early in the episode The Lawn Gnomes do a song together, as do Cosmo and Norm. This can be countered by the fact that people can double in early episodes of American Idol, which the episode was based on.
When Jorgen takes away everything in Timmy's room that was ever affected by magic, everything but Timmy's bed and closet disappears.
In Gimme the Wand, when Jorgen runs into the theater, the people at the ticket counter are Timmy's parents. However, when Jorgen runs out, they are gone.
There appear to be animal fairies, as in this special, a dolphin with a crown and a dog with a crown can be seen in the audience.
The beginning of the song Norm sings is the music that plays at the beginning of "Genie, Meanie, Miney, Mo", at the episode card.
When Jorgen says that Sanderson didn't win, it shows the pixies in the audience, disappointed. One of them is holding a sign that says, "I'm a Fan-derson".
It took Norm 2 weeks to explode from magical buildup, whereas it only took Cosmo and Wanda 24 hours.
Magical buildup hasn't been in an episode since the season 1 episode, The Same Game (although it was called magical backup in that episode).
When Norm leaves (a hot) Santa swims up to the female genies and says "Hey ladies! Don't you wish it was Christmas everyday?". This actually happened in Episode #7 "Christmas Everyday!" (Also episode 1 of Season 2). It also became a rule in "Da Rules" that it can't be Christmas everyday.
Dispite the fact that the contest is for the next Fairy Godparent, Juandissmo enters the contest anyway (his godchild is Remy).
The only magical creatures that didn't appear in this movie are the Anti-Fairies.

1. When the witch comes up to sing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" (it is assuming that she is a fairy-style witch of the Wicked Witch of the East in The Wizard of Oz) a house falls down on her and Simon said "Wow. You really brought the house down." In reality, when Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee performed the song, the real Simon said (in a slightly indifferent tone) that it was an outstanding performance.

2. The Tooth Fairy sang "My Shiny Teeth And Me" by Chippington Skylark III (A.K.A. Chip Skylark) because she is a fan of him (because of his perfect teeth). Blonda said "Those notes were so high only dolphins could hear them," and a dolphin appeared in the crowd in the next shot. In reality, a contestant on Idol performed a song in falsetto.
