Fairfield High School is a comprehensive, co-educational school in Fairfield, Sydney, Australia, part of the South Western Sydney School Region and the Fairfield School Education Area. Fairfield High School was established in 1955. Formerly the school was divided into two adjacent single sex high schools, ie. Fairfield Boys High School and Fairfield Girls High School.

[edit] About Fairfield High School
Fairfield High School is a comprehensive local high school located in the heart of the Fairfield Municipality. Situated in the south western suburbs of Sydney, the school is located on the fringe of the Fairfield Central business district along the Horsley Drive. Fairfield is one of the most densely populated suburbs in Sydney containing residents from all over the world. The community is one of the most multi-cultural communities in Sydney.
Fairfield High School offers a comprehensive education in a coeducational setting. The broad curriculum and its emphasis on catering for the needs of the individual are distinctive features. Students from various cultural backgrounds are valued in this multi-cultural learning community.
A well established Intensive English Centre (IEC) is located on site as part of the High School community. It caters for newly arrived students from overseas. The school has particular interest in providing for the needs of these students on entry into the high school setting.
The positive nature of the school is most evident in its welfare and award system and implementation of the community, achievement, respect and environment (CARE) code that underpins the ethos of the school. The aim of the school is to produce informed, confident and caring individuals through many quality programs promoting the CARE code.
The school is part of the Priority Schools Funding Program which supports students through a variety of strategies that are embedded in the school's management plan and school ethos.

[edit] The CARE Code
The CARE code is a code established by the Fairfield High School and enforced as a policy. It is however unclear who established it. The SRC (Student Representative Council) might have suggested and designed it, or the Principal might have implemented it but it is unsure as there are no official sources.
- We aim to be Informed, Confident, Caring Individuals and Citizens.
- As citizens in the school community, we will take responsibility to attend classes, be on time and dress to the school standard.
- As individuals,at all times we will aim to work to the best of our ability so that we can learn and succeed.
- We will always behave in a way that shows respect for ourselves, each other, and our laws.
- To do our best, we must make sure that our school is a safe and pleasant place for all members of the school community.

As of 2005, it has an enrollment of 1145, of which some 96% are from non-English speaking backgrounds [1]. It has an IEC (Intensive English Centre), and students include Assyrians, Arabs, Asians, Pacific Islanders, Africans, South Americans, Southeast Asians and New Zealanders. Fairfield high school is from years 7-12, the compulsory years are from years 7-9.
The students who attend Fairfield High School come from the area around the municipality of Fairfield, which has been a resettlement center for overseas migrant workers since the 1980s. [2]

Fairfield High school offers a diverse range of subjects from years 7 to 12. Technological courses are offered to students in years 7 - 8, and elective subjects are offered to students in years 9 and 10. Mandatory subjects include; English, Science, Geography, History, Health and P.E.
Fairfield high school also offers a wide variety of extension courses such as English Extension 1, English Extension 2, Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, History Extension and German Extension.
The wide variety of courses offered in Fairfield High school ensures that students are able to pursue their their own field of interest and become successful individuals.

Fairfield High School is an active member in the community and is the host to a variety of external events such as;
- Mini United Nations Assembly (MUNA)
The Mini United Nations Assembly is an annual regional event held in the schools Auditorium where students form teams to debate about worldwide contemporary issues. Each team is a representative for one individual country and the winning team receives a trophy for their achievements. Students are also treated to a free sausage sizzle and a certificate of participation. The judicators for this event are Ms. Contos and Mrs. Mirkova.
- Regional Chess Competition
Fairfield is the host to the regional chess competition, where talented students from other public/private schools are invited into the school to test their skills as a chess player. This all-day event is organised by Mr. Diggins.
