Fairfield Country Day School (FCDS) is a private, single-sex day school in Fairfield, Connecticut. Founded in 1936 by Laurence W. Gregory, the school has, since its inception, admitted only boys. The school is noted for its groundbreaking efforts to incorporate technology into everday student life as well its recent plans to create a separate girls school on campus.

[edit] Curriculum
Fairfield Country Day School is broken down into two distinct student bodies: a lower school and an upper school, the former defining all students in grades K-5 and the latter defining those in grades 6-9. The lower school makes up aboat 2/3 of the student body, and each student is expected to retain mastery over basic mathematical concepts and engage in discussion of books and other topics. In upper school, a student's responsibilities are expanded. FCDS uses special weekly schedule to designate the class schedule for each student a particular day.

From Kindergarten on to fourth grade, students are required to study basic french concepts. In grades five and six, students begin a basic study of Latin. In seventh, currently students are able to choose between French, Spanish, and Latin--whichever language a student chooses, he is expected that language until he graduates. History is a particular interest to the school, and such social science classes begin in grade four. History studies begin with an approach to Mesopotamia and concludes with Vietnam and present-day affairs. English, in addition, is a main part of a student's work load, as typically a class reads three books a year.

Music and Art class are required aspects of a boy's day. Fairfield Country Day has required art and music classes in all grades. All boys in grades K-6 are required to participate in a choral group. It is suggested, but not required, for boys in 7-9 to join a choral group.
Select students' art work is displayed all year. Upper-school students can join a string ensemble or a bell choir.

[edit] Girls school controversy
Early in 2000, Fairfield Country Day School announced plans for an expansion project that would add a girls school to its current campus. This plan, drafted and created by the Board of Trustees, faced dissent from the Fairfield community. While FCDS has support from the town itself, residents in the area feel that traffic in the area would create an unnecessary burden.
As of late, the plan has been red-lighted until further notice.
