Fairdale is a small village located in Franklin Township, in the northwestern corner of DeKalb County, Illinois. It is located on the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern RR and on Illinois Route 72, about 7 Km east of Exit 111 from Interstate 39.

An 1875 Atlas of Illinois gives the name as Hicks Mills, while an 1892 one gives it as Fielding, on the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul RR.
