I hope my alterations are not incorrect. What I have read in the writings of the late W. K. V. Gale suggests that the iron was cut and piled rather than folded. I suspect the results of folding would be unsatisfactory where the bar was bent. Peterkingiron 16:57, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Both cutting and folding are correct, so the article is fine. Folding tended to be used when the bar was intended to made into a single item, such as a pattern-welded or damascus blade. I think that the point was to reduce the chance of grain separation. For a bar that might be cut up into pieces for nails or horseshoes, that didn't matter because the grain would be broken anyway. --Dunkelza 01:47, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
