Template talk:FACnumber

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a template that can be used in articles related to the Factory Records company. Factory used their catalogue numbering system not only for musical recordings, which is the business standard, but also for other objects like posters, buildings and even pets. Read more here.

  • NextNum: full FAC catalogue number of subsequent notable FAC release
  • NextLink: Wikipedia page name of the subsequent FAC release

[edit] Example

Factory Records Catalogue Number
FAC 150

Brotherhood by New Order
« FAC 144 FAC 153 »
{{FACnumber
| FAC = FAC 150
| Title = ''[[Brotherhood (album)|Brotherhood]]'' by [[New Order]]
| PrevNum = FAC 144
| PrevLink = Dom Arigato
| NextNum = FAC 153
| NextLink = State of the Nation
}}

[edit] Discussion

Usage: {{FACnumber | FAC=foo}}, where foo is a full FAC number, like "FAC 123" (The Perfect Kiss by New Order).

When writing several FAC numbers, I suggest separating them with commas, like "FACT 75, FACD 75, FAC 122" etc.

Feel free to make improvements. // S4ndp4pper 20060603 16.56 UTC+1

I've made quite a few changes. Feel free to make more, or just revert it back :)

Usage:

{{FACnumber
| FAC = #full FAC number
| Title = #title of the FAC release, i.e. Brotherhood
| TitleLink = #link of the release, i.e "Brotherhood (album)"
| Type = #what sort of thing it is, usually a single or album but can be a poster, etc
| Artist = #artist which released this item, or whatever the item relates to (perhaps "Hacienda" if its a flyer or poster)
| ArtistLink = #page title of Artist
| PrevNum = #full FAC number of the previous (notable) FAC release
| PrevLink = #page link/title of the previous FAC release
| NextNum = #full FAC number of the next (notable) FAC release
| NextLink = #page link/title of the next FAC release
}}

ie:

Factory Records Catalogue Number
FAC 150

Brotherhood
« 144 FAC 153 »

or

Factory Records Catalogue Number
FAC 51

The Haçienda
« 50 52 »

I don't know how to do fancy "if"s... so if anyone can help with those it would be appriciated. SaltyWater 16:40, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

I don't know either, i'm afraid... gonna learn soon, i hope. I like your improvements, SaltyWater, but i'm wondering if it's really useful to have Title and Type in the box, especially since most FAC numbers here on wikipedia will probably refer to records - which will already have that info in another infobox. I like the PrevNum and NextNum, though.
I'm gonna make some changes of sisez and stuff. As said, revert it if it looks bad. // S4ndp4pper 20060603 21.05 UTC+1
Looking good. Thinking about it perhaps it would be a good idea to get rid of Title, Artist and Type and put something like Description so it leaves it open. Eg you can put "Description = Brotherhood by New Order", or "Description = The Hacienda nightclub". SaltyWater 19:26, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Oh actually you're right, perhaps it would be better not to include it at all. SaltyWater 19:29, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, the comment thing sounds better. I put the new box up on Brotherhood (album) and The Haçienda so we can see it. I also adjusted the size so that it fits nicely under an Album infobox. // S4ndp4pper 20060603 21.36 UTC+1 (DST)
Nice. Do you want to get rid of the Type/Artist/Title fields or shall I? SaltyWater 19:52, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I can fix it, no prob. // S4ndp4pper 20060603 22.35 UTC+1 (DST)
Looking good, nice one :) SaltyWater 20:53, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! I tried to give it a Peter Saville/Factory feel :) I think it turned out really good when the template is used "live". Thanks for fixing this page, btw. // S4ndp4pper 20060603 23.24 UTC+1 (DST)
