[edit] Factotum-definition
Factotum, as used in opera as "general factotum" - draw into your mind the character of "Figaro" in the Marriage of Figaro or the "Barber of Seville", especially in operas by Mozart and Rossinni, is the person who knows how to and arranges for things to "get done" or accomplished. This person is the one who knows everyone and who does what or is capable of arranging for something to get accomplished and makes that action of getting something done accomplished. This person is the ultimate "connections" type of person and "doer". This word is little used now. However I disagree with the definition noted in Wikipedia that it is obsolete, it is simply not used much. After all, look at how many English speaking people misuse the English written and spoken language. Listen for how many times speakers and writers in a public venue (mis)use adjectives for adverbs when describing an action. The "Factotum" is the one person to whom one goes when something needs to be accomplished. We all seek them out and use them regularly! Toner9001 15:34, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Planescape: Factotum
Planescape popularized the word a little bit, giving it this definition: http://www.planewalker.com/encyclopedia/encyclopedia.php?intEntryID=119 "Factotums are the faction members that hold the lowest official rank within factions. Factions may give other names to their factotums as they see fit."
They would be beneath Factors: http://www.planewalker.com/encyclopedia/index.php?startsWith=F " Factor A Factor is the middle-man between Factol and Factotum in the factions of Sigil."
Who are beneath Factols: Factol"Factols are the leaders of factions in sigil, even though they may have other titles tied to the specific faction they lead." Mathiastck 11:31, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Plagiarism?
I'm not familiar with the FilmsWikiProject, for all I know this might be the norm, but much of this entry is lifted from http://www.hollywoodjesus.com/movieDetail.cfm/i/8E7DDB63-A410-CC75-319858BB95C1665E/a/4 ... if this is fine go ahead and revert me out. Trachys 15:42, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
