Fabricio Werdum is a Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter. He is Mirko Filipović's coach in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Werdum has a professional MMA record of 9-2-1 as of November 12, 2006. Although he lost to Sergei Kharitonov in 2005, he advanced to the second stage of PRIDE Fighting Championships' Absolute Grand Prix, with an impressive submission victory over Dutch fighter Alistair Overeem. Werdum lost his next match, however, via unanimous decision to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at PRIDE-Critical Countdown Absolute on July 1, 2006. He was on the point of fighting the former Judo Gold Medal, Nastula, at last September 2006 Grand Prix, but Nastula refused to sign in. He introduced and developed alongside Robin Gracie, Alexander "Minduin" and Tito Beltrán BJJ in Spain.
Werdum is famous for having taken up Jiu-Jitsu after he embarrassingly got into a fight with his ex-girlfriends's new boyfriend, and fell victim to a triangle choke. His former coach "Mauriçao", was shot in Brazil a month before his last fight against Nogueira. Meanwhile he has been living between Madrid, Zagreb and Porto Alegre training hard for the next fighting Events.
In Zagreb, Croatia, Werdum has a jiu-jitsu academy Winner - Werdum Croatia Academy (www.winner-croatia.com) established by his former coach Mauriçao and his pupil Bojan Mirkovic.
