Fabian Wegmann
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fabian Wegmann (born June 30, 1980 in Münster) is a German road racing cyclist, known as a support rider, although he is sometimes referred to as a climbing specialist. However this isn't entirely true, as the mountains jersey he won in the 2004 Giro D'Italia, was gained by long solo breakaways, as he wasn't a man who was regarded could win the race.
Wegmann participated in the 2004 and the 2005 Tour de France. He is 1.78 meters tall, weighs 60 kg, and currently lives in Freiburg. He has been a member of Team Gerolsteiner since 2004.
At the 2004 Giro d'Italia, Wegmann won the "King of the Mountains" jersey as the race's best climber. At the 2005 Tour de France, Wegmann attacked early on Stage 7 in an attempt to win the stage that ended in Karlsruhe, Germany. Due to his tremendous lead (at points up to 17 minutes on the main peloton), he became the virtual leader in points and general classification. However, he was caught near the end of the race and ended up with the polka dot jersey by capturing all the stage's points in the mountains competition.
