F. W. Meacham

Frank W. Meacham (born c.1850–1896 as Ottis Dewey Whitman, Jr) was an American composer.
His most famous work is American Patrol. It was one of the few pieces he actually composed, as he was more of an arranger than a composer. It was later adapted into swing by Glenn Miller, which popularized the main theme. Many of Meacham's works were military marches, tribute pieces, as well as early ragtime music. He is one of the Tin Pan Alley composers. Many of his works, including American Patrol, have lyrics. He lived in New York for much of his life.
American Patrol was also adapted by composer Morton Gould for wind band.
