F. David Mathews

Forrest David Mathews (born 1935) was secretary of the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare from 1975 to 1977. He is now one of only two living secretaries of Health, Education, and Welfare.
He was born in Grove Hill, Alabama. Educated at University of Alabama and Columbia University (PHD 1965), and was president of University of Alabama 1965-75, 1977-1980.
He served in the cabinet of President Gerald Ford.
He serves as Chief Executive Officer and President of the Kettering Foundation 1981-present.
