The article says that only a few present for The Miracle of the Sun saw anything unusual and that sceptics present saw nothing. I don't personally believe that a divine miracle occured in Fatima, Portugal that day, but in my searches on the net I haven't found much evidence to suggest that it didn't occur. There is, however, plenty of 'evidence' that it did, at such sites as this article at fatima.org.
Is there any documentation to support the claim that only a few claimed to have seen the miracle and that the sceptics present saw nothing? Or are we just relying on Occam's razor? -- Tlotoxl 15:14, 17 Aug 2003 (UTC)
There's a (disambiguation) page at Fatima, a page at Our Lady of Fatima, and a page at Fatima, Portugal, with a lot of duplicative material. Who knows, there may even be more pages as well. Is there any reason Our Lady of Fatima shouldn't deal with the apparitions, and Fatima, Portugal deal with the town proper, with appropriate crosslinks? -- Someone else 20:09, 17 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Wow, I didn't know there were that many pages -- I definitely agree there should be some kind of mutual linking with some 'See also's or something? Anyway, I agree that it would make sense to move all but the most basic description of the miracle at Fatima from Fatima, Portugal and move all of that to Our Lady of Fatima with appropriate redirection. The reason why I included more information about the visions on the Fatima page is because I thought that the Our Lady of Fatima article was biased towards the topic and not in depth. I had much more information available--from a non-religous point of view. On the Net there is almost nothing available about Fatima that looks at at from a non-religious perspective. I know. I have done an extensive search. We can't take these Marian visions for granted as actual occurrences. We have to be more sceptical.Portcult 08:00, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)~
- Oh, I agree very much with your intentions, Portcult! I have also researched Fatima pretty extensively on the net when I was trying to refute a bigoted Catholic who was citing The Miracle of the Sun as proof of God and, by extension, the evil of socialism. There really isn't much information out there. I just wanted to make sure that what information we can provide is documented in some way, somewhere, and that it's not just a case of us saying, 'how well can you trust an 80 year-old poorly documented alleged miracle that was witnessed mostly by villagers with little education and probably limited capacity for skepticism?' I do think we're better off moving almost all the miracle of Fatima stuff, believer and skeptic, to another page, though. -- Tlotoxl 09:55, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)
I have already removed the link to Fatima on the Our Lady of Fatima page and have removed all the text from my own article. There are just too many impassioned feelings about the topic to make it worth my while. I will keep what I have written on my internet site called Fatima for Agnostics.Portcult 11:59, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)
It's curious to observe that the same person who wrote about a "bigoted Catholic" also made prejudicial remarks about "villagers with...limited capacity for skepticism." Talk about credulous commentators!
