Fábio Deivison Lopes Maciel or just Fábio (born 30 September 1980 in Nobres, Mato Grosso) is a Brazilian football goalkeeper, as of 2005 plays for Cruzeiro.

[edit] Career

He has recently played for clubs such as União Bandeirante-PR, Vasco, and Atlético-PR. Fábio has been called up to all of Brazil's latest friendly's. He was recently called up by Brazilian head coach Dunga for a friendly against Norway in Oslo on August 16, though never had playing time, the game ended 1-1. He was also called up to play against Argentina and Wales on September 3 and September 5 respectively, but again, he did not play on these match, as Gomes remained Brazil number 1 under Dunga

He was delighted to be included in one of Brazil's latest teams, but knows exactly where he stands and understands what his role in the team is, and stated he was happy to be part of the squad.

Brazil has great keepers as the level has really gone up over the past few years and we have goalies of the calibre of Rogério Ceni (São Paulo), Fábio Costa (Santos) and Júlio César (Inter-ITA). I just want to calmly do what I can to help the seleção.
—Fábio[1]

He has been fairly successful in his career winning the Copa do Brasil, the Campeonato Brasileiro, and the Copa Mercosur all in the same year, 2000. He has also won two state championship, the Campeonato Carioca, and the Campeonato Mineiro.

Fábio has won a couple of international championships as well. Such as the 1997 U-17 South American Youth Championship and FIFA U-17 World Cup both competitions on the youth and U-17 level. Along with that he was part of Brazil's winning side in the Copa América 2004, in Peru.
