[edit] Mariah Carey

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey_%28Mariah_Carey_song%29 Here is my source under chart performance.

[edit] Stevie Nicks

I got your message regarding the picture of Stevie Nicks I placed on her biography. I cannot recall where I found it...But if necessary I can get permission from her Assistant to use it; would that be sufficient?

[edit] Heartbreak

Saw the message. Thanks for the tips. Cheers!

[edit] Thanks!

Thanks for the barnstar!! Hopefully, you will return to Wikipedia. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 23:41, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thank you for the message you left me. It really meant a lot to me, especially coming from you, who I consider to be such a fine editor. I'm sorry that you're leaving and I think Wikipedia will be poorer for your absence, but I wish you all the best with whatever you do, and I hope that you will return here someday. If not, let me say that seeing your work here, and the interractions I've had with you, have been a pleasure. Rossrs 09:04, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ago gratias

Dear Extraordinary,
Thanks for your kind words on my talk page about the Katie Holmes article. Yes, this is a most unserious subject, but she's an interesting person and much in the news lately so is certainly "feature-worthy." I've seen articles on far more important topics that haven't been researched as thoroughly as I did this one. I am gratified by your comments on my hard work. They made my day.
Do let me know if you have an article you're working on that you need another pair of eyes to examine. Ave atque vale! PedanticallySpeaking 15:46, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Leaving?

According to what I read, you are. No way man! You are such a prolific editor, how could you go? Ahhh! Like I said in an archive way back, I appreciate your extremely extensive popular culture editry. How many barnstars do you have? They aren't on your user page, maybe I should give you another to put on your shelf. I hope you don't off your account. At least save the password on a file so you remember if you will be suspending! Cest la vie (I don't even know what that means) Cheers, Mac Davis] ⌇☢ ญƛ. 05:51, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Leaving?

I can't believe we'll never see you again! ;-)

[edit] DYK!

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Time Is on My Side, which you recently nominated and worked on, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thanks for your efforts! I had forgotten all about Kai Winding, one of his remaindered albums was among the first 10 albums I ever bought... ++Lar: t/c 20:37, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tcatron

Sigh, he's gotten out of hand again. I think, if he doesn't improve his editing behaviour soon, a block for disruption should correct him. NSLE (T+C) at 12:55 UTC (2006-05-30)

[edit] Not mine.

He asked me to do it. User:Top 50 asked me to do that. So, I'll work on that for him. It's actually one of my friends. I'll remove it for him. Tcatron565 00:13, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Smile

[edit] What?

Sorry, about that, but Top 50 is my brother! He gets on here just as much as I do, but just reads! How boring!!!!!!! Anyway, I didn't make the Point of no return page. Someone else did. I just followed them. Actually, I wanted to change it to Point of No Return (3LW album). Tcatron565 23:31, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stylistic changes

The reason why I changed it, is because I think it's handier to put the year of release first, then the single title. Sometimes, titles are longer than the titles before it and u get something like on "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor". It's not even there.. While if the year of release is put on top, you won't have to 'search' for it. I hope u understand what I mean, as my English isn't that well. -- Luigi-ish 20:13, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

O.K. Thanks for the tips -- Luigi-ish 17:38, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Angels (song)

Where is this song being merged and why? It might provide background for an admin. Would you mind putting an explation on the talk page? Capitalistroadster 01:18, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] another DYK...

Updated DYK query On June 4, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Not about Love, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thanks for your continuing contributions... ++Lar: t/c 22:45, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (W/w ith Flowers in My Hair)

I really do. Though I was wondering - you moved this from capital W to little w, persumably ont he basis that prepositions are capitalized in song titles. However, I was wondering that, given it begins a parenthesized (is that a word?) clause, whether the 'with' should not have a capital 'W'? I've started a discussion here. --Robdurbar 10:27, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 200.138.194.254 (talk contribs)

That is very annoying behaviour. I'm a little uncomfortable blocking the IP with no more justification than "Editing idiosyncratically, refuses to use Talk pages", but I'm not sure what other solution there might be. I suppose we could file a user-conduct RfC on the IP, but I don't imagine that they would respond to that either. I can't just bot-rollback all of their contributions, either, because they're not all bad; often they are just shuffling around bits of markup. I'm not sure what to do with this one. Jkelly 23:29, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

The thing is that there really isn't broad support for contra-WP:MOS edits being Wikipedia:Vandalism. The IP isn't revert-warring to the point where they are in danger of WP:3RR. Their refusal to use Talk pages is the easiest thing to explain as a real problem, but I am not sure that there is consensus for that being a blockable offense. I think that User:Mel Etitis has dealt with this kind of behaviour before, though, and has probably done some thinking about ways to proceed. I'll leave a note asking him to take a look. Don't feel like you have to take sole responsibility for cleaning up, though, especially to the point where it is frustrating enough that it diminshes your enthusiasm for writing articles (advice I should follow myself when I go on one of my binges of replacing unfree images here with images from Commons). Jkelly 17:21, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
That's a shame. I imagine that you'll be an admin not that many hours from now. What do you think should be done? Jkelly 20:27, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Christina Aguilera

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia under the three-revert rule, which states that nobody may revert an article to a previous version more than three times in 24 hours. (Note: this also means editing the page to reinsert an old edit. If the effect of your actions is to revert back, it qualifies as a revert.) Thank you. Maddyfan 02:48, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Please be careful not to remove content from Wikipedia without a valid reason, which you should specify in the edit summary or on the article's talk page. Thank you. Maddyfan 10:59, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Five edits. Deleting content at whim. You're working on being blocked. You are vandalizing. Maddyfan 11:12, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

You are in danger of violating the three-revert rule on a page. Please cease further reverts or you may be blocked from further editing. Maddyfan 13:59, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your help on the Christina Aguilera article. Okay, I really want to unlock this article. I would have unlocked this article if only we didn't have this senseless arguing from maddyfan and her (suspected) sockpuppets. If she can't get along and work with us, please open an RfC. I completely agree with you about your ideas for the article, because I've been through the vocal profile discussion before. In the second archive of Xtina's talk page, the Music Wikiproject did an evaluation of the article. In it it said the lead should be 2-5 paragraphs. I think your header should be lengthened. BTW, I'm the one who's extensively edited the Xtina article as you can see by the edit histories of 2005 and 2004, and sourced the Star is made book. --LBMixPro<Speak|on|it!> 04:23, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re: Dance charts

I added a comment to the "Cool" discussion page. Hope that helps! -- eo 13:13, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

In regards to "Cool", I'm sorry if I'm being difficult. I'm just obsessed with perfection, really. —Eternal Equinox | talk 21:36, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

This edit is unacceptable. There is no rule that states article headers cannot be wikified by any other person, and placing a : so that a message appears in a particular position (so not to concide with the former message) is also allowed. I archived such a conversation because that was certainly not me editing from IP and it was unactive, as is most of the other discussions on the talk page, which should all be archived. —Eternal Equinox | talk 00:28, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes, there is a point there. I still believe that headers should be wikified, to comply with the MoS, but perhaps I should open a discussion there. Actually, I do not know who was editing from that IP address — could you tell me who? —Eternal Equinox | talk 00:48, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
All right, maybe not. But do you know of any sources that I could access to write a musical section for "Cool"? If not, I'm going to have to conduct actual research with Tokyo-shop administrators. This would be difficult. —Eternal Equinox | talk 01:09, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I am leaving after June 26. However, it is possible that I will return in the distant future. If I do, I will leave you an e-mail with regards to this. By the way, I added you on Messenger, did you get around to adding me? I could tell you more off Wikipedia. —Eternal Equinox | talk 01:12, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for comment/maddyfan

I have opened up an RfC for maddyfan. Please add evidence and certify, so we can let maddyfan know about it. thanks --LBMixPro<Speak|on|it!> 21:47, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Times mention

Hey dude, no problem! I saw the article, so I had to see what the edit war was about. And then I was like, "Holy hell, I see him on AfD all the time!" So hey, congrats! Interestingly, I know I left the message on your talk page, but then when I came back here, it was gone. I thought, "Hmm... that's weird. Someone must have deleted it." And then I realized that my edit never showed up in your talk page's edit history. And it never showed up in my user contributions list. So what's up with that? -- Kicking222 23:05, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Hmm... a few people are none too happy with you right now. But hey, at least we know that we always have admins who are doing their duty. -- Kicking222 23:11, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
You should be proud of the Times article on all fronts. I mean, let's face facts: It's pretty damn cool. And I'm completely all for a "better safe than sorry", not just about WP, but about life in general. -- Kicking222 23:39, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Urban Hymns

Other albums have song pages for each song on an album, so why cant Urban Hymns? The songs all have such variety and the album regularly gets voted into "Top 40 albums ever" on various TV networks/in magazines so I feel every song deserves a mention. Please get back to me- Thanks (Dsims209 15:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC))

[edit] I'm Back--How Are You?

Greetings, Extra!
I've been away for about six weeks. I am pleased to see some of my articles have been patrolled in my absence (e.g. Katie Holmes). Haven't heard from you in a while. How are you doing? PedanticallySpeaking 16:55, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Hope your exams went well. What are you studying? I'm doing okay. Last two months have been really hectic so Wikipedia work had to be jettisoned. I'm working on a replacement for the existing Bricker Amendment article at User:PedanticallySpeaking/In_Progress2. I hope to be able to put that up in the next couple weeks. (But I said that a couple months ago too, so we'll see.) It looks like your RfA will pass, so congrats in advance. PedanticallySpeaking 15:01, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request

Could you take the same format used at Image:Gwen Stefani Cool chart trajectories.png and slightly expand on it? I found a new chart and would like it to be included up until the twentieth week. If you accept, please respond on my talk page! —Eternal Equinox | talk 22:06, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Exactly why would I be following you around? I did not look into the history of any of these articles, with the exception of Talk:Pieces of Me (but I had already known of this from long ago; you've edited it over time). I'm sorry if this doesn't sound sincere, but I promise that it is. Would it be possible to talk to you online right now? —Eternal Equinox | talk 18:07, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm going to be adding a "Music and structure" section to Cool (song) before the end of tomorrow. Once it is included, could you take a look at it and possibly remove anything redundant and/or excessive? —Eternal Equinox | talk 21:22, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi / Shameless request for help

Hi there! I've been working on the Alison Krauss article recently (it's up for FAC, but appears to be rightfully failing for not being comprehensive enough). I have been using the fantastic Mariah Carey article you listed at FAC (I can't figure out who the major contributors were, but I'm guessing you were a part) and I was wondering if you might help out/give some helpful tips. I'm currently trying to work up "Voice" and "Themes" subsections for the new Artistry section as per Carey. Staxringold talkcontribs 20:48, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the fast response! I absolutely agree that there's no reason to rush the fixes, but the FAC has provided a pretty clear picture (all three opposers noted the need for more comprehensiveness) which is actually more info than was garnered from the PR so I wanted to get working. Thanks for the notes and sorry I forgot about the Minogue which is quite good as well. I remember work being done on Impossible Princess but somehow the main article flew by me. I'll get to work on your suggestions ASAP (currently writing up a decent sized addition of a "Performances" section) and please make whatever changes you see fit or let me know if you notice anything big. Thanks again! Staxringold talkcontribs 21:25, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks again for your notes. I believe I've implemented the things you've mentioned so far as much as they can be (some of the "some critics" style statements were purposeful as they quote multiple reviewers in one sentence) and any details you think of whenever you have the time would continue to be appreciated. Thanks! Staxringold talkcontribs 23:00, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Hi again! I voted a clear support on your RFA (it was just by luck I came upon it, I'm surprised you didn't hit me up for a vote. Heh). I've also added a pretty large amount of content to the Krauss article and any continued advice would be appreciated. On that note, the Carey article uses two sources that look quite nice (though they're large enough I wouldn't want to buy them just for this one article), "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Music" and "The Faber Companion to 20th Century Popular Music: Fully Revised Third Edition." Do you have access to those sources still, and if so do you have access to a scanner, and if so would you be willing to do me a massive favor? If you can and will, thank you so much, whatever content they have on Krauss will likely be a huge help. If not, I completely understand as it's kind of a crazy thing to ask out of the blue. Staxringold talkcontribs 00:01, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Sidenote: Might it be worthwhile for you to include (somewhere) a note on Carey's physical notability? I ask only because I'm always surprised by Wikipedia's detailed magazine lists, and Carey has appeared on FHM lists in 1996, '97, '98, 2000, '01, '05, and some of the US lists as well. Staxringold talkcontribs 02:53, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your RFA

Hi, Extra. I think your civility warning to Everyking on his page was richly deserved, but I would advise against letting yourself be drawn into arguing any further on your RFA page. James' extremism in these matters is well known, and his comments about you don't need any rebuttal; they look foolish enough just sitting there. Bishonen | talk 12:53, 26 June 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Alison Krauss II: First Blood

Heh, anyways, congrats on the RFA! I'm glad I noticed it, although my vote was just a grain of sand amongst your many supporters. :D Now, onto Ms. Krauss. I know I've been hassling you, and I really do apologize. Three questions: First, as always, do you see anything worth fixing/adding/adding onto? I ask because I've done just about everything I can think of to dig up worthy information for the article (tommorow I'm going to watch the interviews on the Live DVD I just got, exhausting the last real source I can think of). Second: Unlike your gorgeous Kylie Minogue and Mariah Carey I have no free image to use, even for the lead infobox. I have, per Miles Davis, continued using the fair use album cover that was there before I started editing. Should I upload another fair use image that is just a standard promo shot (there are a few Rounder uses quite a bit) or stick with the album cover (this came up in the FAC). Finally, on the topic of the FAC, any chance of getting you to vote? I realize it's currently 2/3/0, but I've repeatedly asked those 3 oppositions to give me some update given the changes to the article and I've heard nothing back. It may be fruitless, but it would be nice to show that post-changes the article has garnered support. Thanks for everything and congrats again! Staxringold talkcontribs 00:34, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for even looking at the library and no worries on the voting (whatever your policy is is your perogative). As for asking the company, it's funny you should say that as I am literally half-way through writing an email to Rounder Records. Worst case there are some VERY widely distributed promos I can use. Staxringold talkcontribs 22:46, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the free image!! Question: Are all images on Flickr under the Creative Commons? If so, there are some exellent free images to replace some fair use stuff on there now... Staxringold talkcontribs 20:34, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
No, but one can search Flickr using CC-BY as a criteria, or CC-BY-SA as a criteria (always do both searches). I've used the Flickr message system to ask people to relicense unfree images with some success, as well. Jkelly 20:36, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Just as JKelly was replying that I discovered it myself. I'm going to upload a slightly clearer Krauss photo for the use in the lead and I already have a request out for some Flickr shots to be reliscensed free. Staxringold talkcontribs 20:47, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Are you on?

I need assistance. There's an edit war between two people who demand differing logos at WVTM-TV. One image is one of the logos available at http://www.nbc13.com/nbc13logo/index.html; the other combines two of those images, clearly paintshopped to include "WVTM/DT". The user with the paintshopped version insists that this is the way the logo is currently presented in broadcast; the website, however, does not reflect this change at all (that I can find). I would be tempted to tell this user that the altered logo would be fine if he can provide a photograph or screenshot of the broadcast logo, but I'm frankly not sure if that's accurate. Input is welcome. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 19:13, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

No problem. But won't it ever change to "Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs" on Wikipedia?
Well, that user has already been warned, but don't worry, I'll report him/her if (s)he persists after the fourth warning.

[edit] But

I know, but "single" is not appropriate, and some other artist may have a song called "Chemicals React". Or at least an album. Tcatron565 22:34, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

You've been an admin for, what, a few days now, EM? And already throwing your weight around, threatening to block good users? Everyking 09:29, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox Single formatting

I understand you'd know about this better than most, but when was the decision made to remove bold formatting from the middle item in the chronology? I'm fine with it, I just have no idea when this happened (and thus have been using bold the whole time). –Unint 22:22, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the kind words. I was a bit surprised when I read that article and it was so lacking in information about the Lovin' Spoonful version. I certainly respect editors' attempts to fill in singles for artists they like, but I really wish they wouldn't ignore other equally or more notable versions in the process. [edit] Worthy use of your new admin powers

Congratulations on your recent granting of admin powers. I would like to draw your attention to a worthy use of those powers - the closing of copyvio reports listed on WP:CP. As you'll see there are many tens of such reports that need dealing with each day, and the backlog is barely being kept under control despite a couple of us spending lots of time working on them. The process is pretty easy and sorting a few only takes a little time and with a group of people helping, we can keep the backlog under control easily - just review the article & the source to ensure it is a copy, and then delete. Any help would certainly be appreciated - any questions, ask away. Kcordina Talk 09:02, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Some information for you

I looked up some Canadian chart positions for Alanis Morissette. I have looked at your sandbox and the ones you had already located; here are some of the positions you do not yet have:

  1. "You Learn": #1
  2. "All I Really Want": #2
  3. "Ironic": #2
  4. "That I Would Be Good": #25
  5. "Joining You": #30

Sources: Here and the Canadian Recording Book. I don't think any other positions exist for Morissette's singles, except for "Hand in My Pocket" (which I can't find). I will update you (hopefully). Additionally, please check your MSN. 64.231.71.206 21:25, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I have edited Cool (song) again. This time, do not be disruptive and attempt to compromise my edits instead of throwing them out based on "discussions" or whatnot. 64.231.77.2 23:22, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
This is a fine edit (really), but I'm just curious to know how "the lyrics of" sounds more "cripsy" than "the lyrical content of"? Does this have to do with the "one word is better than four" rule? If so, then that's okay. 64.231.75.193 20:13, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Huh?? You are now writing misleading edit summaries. Most of what I did in the previous edit did not involve what you removed in this edit. 64.231.76.145 20:37, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I would like a response to why you are so consistent on removing the article's content. Everything is becoming shorter and shorter when it is unnecssary! 64.231.76.145 20:43, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I think my new edits have not strongly affected yours at all. Please take a look so that we do not argue about it. 64.231.76.145 20:55, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
This is rather odd. I never even conducted half the edit; is Wikipedia acting rather strange on your computer or is it just me? Currently whenever I make an edit it seems as though writing is being reinserted that I never removed in the first place. This edit proves something strange is happening. Because of this, I ask that you remove your now-famous "misleading edit summaries" from Talk:Cool (song); I'm not sure, but I don't think you meant to do this, especially since what you write in your edit summary is very misleading. 64.231.76.145 21:20, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
By the way, please tell me either here or on the talk page what other aspects of the article you think require editing. 64.231.76.145 21:23, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Naming conventions

Hi, I'm having a dispute with Rhythmnation2004 regarding naming conventions, and I was hoping you could help because you seem to know a lot about that. He is continually moving La Toya Jackson's single articles to incorrect titles that do not follow Wikipedia's naming conventions. Almost every one was named incorrectly, and when I moved them to correct titles, he moved most back. I left him a message with a link to the naming conventions, and he attacked me, "You need to get a life and stop obsessing over things that you're wrong about". Some of his moves include "If You Feel the Funk" to "If You Feel The Funk", "I Don't Want You to Go" to "I Don't Want You To Go", "Hot Potato (song)" to "Hot Potato (single)", "He's a Pretender" to "He's A Pretender", "Heart Don't Lie (song)" to "Heart Don't Lie (single)", "Stay the Night (La Toya Jackson song)" to "Stay the Night (1981 single)", etc. Thanks. --musicpvm 17:19, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm getting really tired of talking to you, so I'll make this quick. I made the clean-up because the box looked really sad. So I cleaned it up a little bit. Plus Aly & AJ, Hilary Duff, and many other artists have it to where it says === Albums === and === Singles ===. Also, the rule is that if no one else has made an article that has the same title as a single. Then it becomes "Song" (song) or if there are many songs with that title, it would become "Song" (Artist name song) Tcatron565 18:16, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Songs with multiple articles

Hi there. I've recently started a list of the songs which currently have multiple articles written about them. I thought you might be interested, since you seem to be attempting to fix these. It is located here: User:GassyGuy/Multiversions. I'm sure there are more. I've recently worked to merge some cases, but looks like there are still quite a few out there.

Unrelated note: I saw on your talk page above an old request for comment about capitalization when songs have parentheses. I think it'd be a good idea to reach consensus there, because I have always viewed the parenthetical portion to be a subtitle, which would imply that the first letter of the first word is always capitalized, analogous to the book format This Is the Title: And This Is a Subtitle of the Book.

Cheers! GassyGuy 05:23, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Mana.ustad

You said: "I asked you this above after you blocked Lesliephung (talk contribs), but you didn't reply. At WP:BP#Expiry_times_and_application "For static IPs, such blocks should initially last 24 hours, and should increase gradually upon resumption of vandalism; eventually repeat violators may be blocked indefinitely, but such blocks should be issued with discretion. Logged-in users that repeatedly vandalise may also be blocked for the same time periods." I think it's rather excessive to jump from 24 hours to a week, particularly as uploading images without the necessary copyright info isn't blatant vandalism in most cases. Enforcing longer blocks straight away increases the possibility of the editor not returning than if the second block had been for 48 hours. Would you mind if I changed the block on Mana.ustad (talk contribs) to 48 hours? (Or you can do it yourself, if you'd prefer.)"

I found the user had been uploading images stating that they were licensed under the GFDL. This was after numerous warnings. It seems that the user decided that the best approach was to falsely license the images rather than just leave the information blank. However, it could have been a mistake. I have shortened the block to 48 hours. Thank you for calling me on this. I don't always respond to your comments on my discussion page but I always take them into serious consideration. --Yamla 14:47, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] (When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me

The Naming Conventions only apply to the NAMING of articles. The article name was left the way you wanted it: "(When You Gonna) Give It up to Me". Therefore, I am not violating any Wikipedia guidelines.

Whether it looks professional or not is not for you to decide. I am following the Wikipedia guidelines. I belive you were the one (maybe it was Gwenol) who told me that the actual title of the article did NOT have to match the subject. A song title is a proper work of art and is capitalized by the artist in a particular way. There are no guidelines stating naming conventions within articles. If you still disagree, I think we should have a third party administrator address the issue, because I am definetely not breaking any Wikipedia rules. Rhythmnation2004 00:52, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Capitalisation in song and album titles

Yes, I realised that single infoboxes are better than HTML ones, I'm glad you liked. But okay, I'll (try) to follow the naming conventions rule, even though I don't really agree with it. As for Beyoncé, her official website must have mentioned "popular music" generally, because her songs are quite different from the ones by real pop R&B singers like Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Ashanti, Mýa etc.

[edit] Did it ever occur to you

that going to someone's talk page and leaving links to Wikipedia:Civility and the like is in itself quite uncivil, especially when you haven't bothered to trace out the reasons for the comments you found so offensive? [edit] Reason

Hi I don't know you but you are going about deleting things I have contributed to this site and it has really bugged me! The reason why I put a list of singles on albums was so people knew which songs were singles since some singles don't chart! It's really pathetic that you must go about deleting other people's work! [edit] Fascinating...

Upon checking over my edits, this was one of two reverts that seemed to have nothing whatsoever to do with my intentions. Is this a glitch you've come across, or am I losing it? :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 03:35, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Upset

I wish that you had notified me when you nominated the article Catch Me When I Fall (song) for deletion a new months ago. I just now released it's gone. That song is not a single but it's increasingly common for songs to receive articles without being singles, especially if they have some other particular notability attached to them. In this case, "Catch Me When I Fall" got a lot of attention for a non-single, because it was a response to SNL and because she performed it when she went back to SNL. Could you consider nominating it for undeletion—not necessarily because you agree, but to give it a better hearing? The deletion debate that actually occurred seems to have passed under the radar screen and attracted little attention. Everyking 14:13, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, I suggest you should stop talking to me. Also, I just don't care about the deletion of the Cheyenne Kimball or Tropical Storm Tammy photos. Also, I didn't know about the stupid music video thing. Although many other songs have links to lyrics, music videos, and clips! Also I don't talk to people because 1) I havent'e looked at my messages yet, 2) I get the point and do need to tell them that I've got the point, or 3) I just don't want to fight with that person at the moment. In fact, I really didn't want to talk to right now so, there you go. So if you want to write back and say how rude I am, well be my guest. I have been at my state's fair for a whole 2 days and I wanted to get back on Wikipedia and the first thing I have to do is tak to you?!!! Ugh! :( Also, what's up with the Beat of My Heart section. [edit] Bob Dylan

Hi Extraordinary Machine, On 18 August, I reverted some of your edit, & explained my reasons on Dylan Talk page. It just occurred to me I should have posted them on your Talk page. I haven’t done this kind of dialogue before, so forgive me if I have not fully understood Wikipedia protocol. I wanted to explain I had thought about my edit for some time and had some reasons. I wrote:

I’ve reverted the lines about Dylan’s song The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll to their previous formulation because I don’t think your version is quite right. A lot of critics have written about the racial aspect of the song and how it is implicit in the narrative. The point has been made by Gray, Heylin and Marqusee to name just 3 of the critics cited in references and further reading. People have commented on it before Christopher Ricks’s book and after Christopher Ricks’s book. I think it’s valid to suggest that the song works in this way and then give a concrete citation to Ricks because his discussion of the racial angle of Hattie Carroll is particularly good. But to attribute the idea to Ricks alone – as you do in your version – distorts this point. I could also give citations for 5 critics who have called Hattie Carroll a highlight of Dylan’s song-writing career, so I think it is valid to call it a highlight of the album.

I also wanted to revert Hard-working to Elder Statesman, but I thought I better explain why, otherwise I might find myself in the midst of an edit war amidst mutual incomprehension. It seems to me that ‘Hard-working’ is a more objective term than ‘Elder Statesman’. After all, Dylan isn’t literally a statesman; he doesn’t speak at the UN Security Council or negotiate peace in the Middle East. Elder Statesman is a metaphor for a man of experience and gravitas. But ‘Hard-working’ is objectively true since Dylan has performed more than 100 shows a year since the mid 1980s – as well as writing a feature film ‘Masked & Anonymous’, publishing the first volume of his autobiography, collaborating with the Scorsese documentary ‘No Direction Home’, embarking on a series of 1 hour radio shows, and recording 2 new albums – all in the last 5 years.

None of Dylan’s contemporaries from the 1960s, the Stones, McCartney, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, have performed even a quarter of the number of shows Dylan has done. So why do you believe Hard-working is POV? I think it’s objectively true. After all, I think the only NPOV description of Dylan after 1980 would be:

Singer and guitar player aged over 40

But I think we can agree that would not make a very good sub-heading. So I believe Hard-working elder statesman is factually accurate. Best wishes Mick gold 08:59, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

It appears as if you are not familiar enough with the situation. I have not undone anyone's edits without first thoroughly explaining my reasoning. Please assume good faith in the future (WP:AGF) as we all have the same goal here in making the WWE page as complete as possible.JB196 02:37, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I contend that I did not revert the page six times and that most of the edits also consisted of grammatical changes, and that therefore I did not violate WP:3RR. If you still contend that I reverted the page six times then please link me to those six pages.

I was not aware of the rule that one cannot remove posts from their own talk pages; that is news to me.

Thank you in advance. ;;JB196 01:21, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

From WP:REVERT: To revert is to undo all changes made after a certain time in the past.

There is only ONE pages I see which fall under this category: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=World_Wrestling_Entertainment&diff=71102074&oldid=71097572

I therefore would think that these edits would not fall under 3RR as there are only two reverts. In all of the other edits (five in this case) I made other grammatical changes. The page was therefore not reverted to "a certain time in the past" more than one time, as I see it.

Facts:

Never has the article looked exactly like it did at 21:25 except after my edit here at 21:02: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=World_Wrestling_Entertainment&diff=71102074&oldid=71097572

Never has the article looked exactly like it did at 21:25 except after my edit here at 21:25: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=World_Wrestling_Entertainment&diff=71104919&oldid=71102774

Never has the article looked exactly like it did at 21:54 except after my edit here at 21:54: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=World_Wrestling_Entertainment&diff=71108172&oldid=71106853

Never has the article looked exactly like it did at 7:16 except after my edit here at 7:16: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=World_Wrestling_Entertainment&diff=71172175&oldid=71108757

Never has the article looked exactly like it did at 9:54 except after my edit here at 9:54: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=World_Wrestling_Entertainment&diff=71198122&oldid=71197248

So what this indicates to me is that you are right that "he diff links there indicate that you reinserted the same "See also" links into the article more than three times in 24 hours" but they also indicate that I inserted many other edits into the article while RE-insterting those same "See also" links.

So as I see it I did not undo all changes; I undid SOME changes. So how exactly do 3 or more of my edits fall under the category of "undo all changes made after a certain time in the past?" If I change another part of the article in addition to readding See Also topics that does not meet the criteria given in WP:REVERT. Furthermore, I more than thoroughly (and in my opinion adequately) explained all of the changes in the edit summaries. Furthermore, as my record shows, the edits were all made in good faith WP:AGF.

Thank you very much for your assistance.;;JB196 01:38, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Newport, Florida

I'll tackle the Newport, Florida article today. From what I've seen, 3 seperate articles can come from this. Noles1984 12:46, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wii

I am only editing it because that person continues to remove titles without any real evidence, which counts as vandalism. Last time I checked the 3RR rule doen't apply to removing vandalism. TJ Spyke 01:58, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stop In The Name Of Love

Gwernol clearly stated that the title of the article did not have to match the proper capitalization. An album is a work of art, and can be capitalized a certain way, such as Janet Jackson's album "janet.". There are no naming conventions that refer to the title within the article, and so you have no reason to revert it.

Does it really matter to you anyway? It matters to me, so just humor me and let me have it the proper way.

[edit] Reversion to Lindsay Lohan

Since it appears on its face that I reverted you, I thought I'd pop in with a note. I'm guessing you agree with me as far as the content goes, but I tend to think that including something simply because someone is going to occasionally recreate a non-notable article against WP:MUSIC and/or WP:SONG sets a bad precedent, as if we were giving in to someone's persistence for its own sake. Thoughts? :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 23:20, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply, and don't worry about the time. I'll check some of those items you listed; if WP:N isn't met, the redirects that should be there will be restored. :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 23:01, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stop In The Name Of Love

If you can't understand Gwernol's statement, than you have no right to interpret your way. For all you know, La Toya Jackson may have purposely intended for that specific capitalization, just like Janet Jackson did with her janet. album. If you still disagree, I suggest we go to a third-party administrator to resolve the conflict.

In regards to the "I Can't Help Myself" single page, that policy is ridiculous and I would like you to show me proof that it is indeed a policy. Now, someone trying to go through La Toya's full singles chronology will be interrupted by being redirected to a Four Tops' single page, which can make it difficult to get back into the La Toya Jackson singles.

I have reverted all your edits and will continue to do so until a third party, who you do NOT KNOW AT ALL and has no affiliation with this matter, has been contacted in regards to this issue.

[edit] Sorry for the goof

[edit] Sources for Music charts

Hello, you seem to be very picky about sources for chart trajectories! What is the best way of writing up these sources for the chart tables? What websites should I use (for US, Canada, Australia, UK, etc, etc)? I have made an attempt of citing sources to a couple of articles already, though I'm not sure. RaNdOm26 15:07, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

You said you discourage including chart trajectories. I noticed once you deleted a few tables from an article because they had no source, but you purposely kept a few of them. If you discourage chart trajectories, why don't you delete all the chart trajectories you can find in Wikipedia? RaNdOm26 09:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cool (song)

Please see Talk:Cool (song)#Some changes#Questions for EM. 64.231.70.87 17:40, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Ban has expired per 22:34 September 6 (I'm 99% positive that was the time). It is now September 8 and well after 22:34. (It's later where you are.) 64.231.115.150 22:59, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

We will now take the discussion to Talk:Cool (song) and attempt to resolve all the remaining issues. Luckily, I think there are few left, which is a good thing. At least this argument has done an okay job of trying to enhance the quality further. But because it's a featured article, and shortly after we finish our debate, I think I'm going to step down from editing it on a regular basis. I'll limit it to the beginning or end of each month. The content is pretty balanced now, and there's little left to change. Let's successfully finish this, all right? 64.231.118.84 13:41, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

I'm unsure if you're allowed to since you were involved with the "edit war", but I think a reasonable amount of time has passed since the page was protected (one week); are you permitted to unprotect it? 64.231.153.209 20:25, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Space Cakes EP cover.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Space Cakes EP cover.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 15:07, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Charts or no charts......

Do you know of other users who support the issue of deleting chart trajectories? I don't see a guideline or something that says Wikipedia is not a "marketing report/scorecard overview of a song's performance", so you speak. And by the way, you should archive this user talk page. I would love to help edit that page. Could you please tell me what the notify thing is all about. Tcatron565 00:35, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About sources

I notice you have a tendency to revert people when they add info if that info is uncited. I'm as strong a believer in citations as anyone, but I believe article development is better faciliated by allowing the information in, requesting a cite (without automatically reverting), and failing that look for a citation yourself; only once you've tried that should you revert the content, in my opinion. Obviously there is an exception to be made here for controversial or questionable content, which in the absence of a cite can be reasonably reverted right away, but the diffs I looked at appeared to be fairly bland information. Everyking 09:41, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Notable roles

Hi, I've stumbled upon a comment you made at Template talk:Infobox actor#Notable roles and I've replied. There are several examples where huge infoboxes have been added to bio pages. Could you please have another look when you have time. I have reverted only one article until I realized there a quite a few. I'd be interested to know what you think. Thanks Rossrs 10:57, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Chart tables

Okay, I will use "wikitable" instead of "tablabonita" for charts from now on. By the way, how can I divide this table into two? Funk Junkie 18:23, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

I didn't manage to! I've already tried before and it also looked weird... I don't know what's wrong. Yeah, that's a good song! Corinne's a really great artist. What did your mama think of her album? ;) Funk Junkie 20:19, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What2do

I was going to ask you to block that account immediately after I made the third edit, but you got there first, so that's fine. I was accessing it only because Cool (song) is semi-blocked and I have to wait another day before editing it. Anyway, that's fine. I can't remember who created What2do, but I started editing from it occasionally in either June or July or something. Thanks for removing it altogether though! Velten 17:05, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Days of our Lives

I figured I'd come over here and give you a tip. We have already had a consensus decision to keep the name of the article at Days of our Lives, since this is what the program is referred to in its title card and by NBC/Sony Pictures Television, the distributors. I have since moved it back, but I would appreciate it if you could change all uses of "Our" back to "our." If you feel consensus is outdated or incorrect, please request for it to be moved, because I read the conventions and I didn't see anything that would indicate that "Our" would be preferred, especially with the evidence seen. Do remember that those are conventions, not rules. ;) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 01:54, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

The Worker's Barnstar is a great honour, many thanks, much appreciated. I'm afraid I've no idea how the Barnstar works. Can anyone designated an administrator give one? Are there limits to an administrator's generosity? Is there anything to stop you awarding a dozen Barnstars today? Is there some mechanism of control or consensus among senior wiki people? I must confess I regret the change of Dylan sub-heading from Elder Statesman to Later Career. Elder Statesman does convey a certain gravitas, the fact that Dylan has been a major figure in the world of music & popular culture over 5 decades. Later Career just seems so colourless. Do I dare to revert it?Do I dare to eat a peach? (Prufrock) I liked the photo on your User Page. best wishes Mick gold 07:24, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Harassment

You are forbidden from posting on my talk page (unless strictly necessary). You've pretty much exhausted my patience and are using the ArbCom ruling as an excuse to allowing your way. Velten 16:33, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

I'll be responding on the RFAR page now. Velten 16:50, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

By the way, I've started removing chart trajectories from singles articles since they take up too much room and are irritating to reference. I guess I sort of agree with what you say, in their overuse in singles articles, so if you need any help, I'm here. However, I think they're notable in albums articles since that's the entire package. Now I'll go. Velten 18:15, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I noticed that you edited someone else's comment for clarity, spelling or grammar. As a rule, refrain from editing others' comments without their permission. Though it may appear helpful to correct typing errors, grammar, etc., please do not go out of your way to bring talk pages to publishing standards, since it is not terribly productive and will tend to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. For more details, see Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thanks, Extraordinary Machine 22:48, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Hiya, I certainly didn't mean to. There's certainly no malicious intent, I have just been spending some spare time trying to improve the Buffy article to featured status. I apologise, I thought it was normal practice to strike through the tasks once they were completed, I haven't got involved in votes to make articles featured before but read through some, and just assumed that the striking of the tasks completed was done by the editors who made the improvements. Shall take this into account, and in future not strike through / repair grammar.. Peace -- Buffyverse 23:56, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello, a while back you moved the article "Son of a Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You)" to "Son of a Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is about You)" but as you know About should be capitalized (see:Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization)) and since I'm not an admin I can't do the move myself, so I'm asking you to. [edit] Britney Spears discography

An anonymous user is vandalising the Britney Spears discography page. He/she claims TIME Magazine said Britney sold 88 million albums and 55 million singles when Time claimed she sold 76 million records[2] (Britney is 19/22 and 20/22). He/she also gives wrong sources. For instance, he says Britney's official site claimed her debut sold 28 mill when it sold 25 mill. The site is undergoing reconstruction. Please put a protection lock that disables anonymous users on it. Thank you. 5 octaves

[edit] Your block of User:Velten

I am concerned about your 3 week block of User:Velten. The arbcom case says she can be blocked for up to a week for violations; you blocked her for 3 weeks. [edit] Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Hiya

I posted a comment at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Buffy the Vampire Slayer which responded to some of your comments, so thought you maybe interested in. In particular do you think points 4, 7, 9 can be struck?:

"All the changes suggested above have been made. I think the prose is good, but know there's room for improvement & I agree this article would benefit from someone copyediting it who is not familiar with it. I might try printing it out and getting some people to read through it specifically for grammar/language. I believe points 4, 7, and 9 been solved."

Thanks-- Paxomen 12:57, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Restarted nomination: Since you have were involved with discussion before at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you might appreciate knowing that the nomination for the Buffy articles has been restared at the same wiki page. Ok. It seems a good idea for me since I was finding it very difficult to place all piano rock songs there. Oh, right. I'm sorry, it's just, I've never seen the word "like" uncapitalised. Funk Junkie 15:59, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, that's quite complicated! But I'll be careful about this. Changing the subject, I've been thinking, shouldn't there be a "director" field on the single infobox? I've already started a discussion about this on the article's talk page, but no one has replied it so far. Funk Junkie 21:18, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey

[edit] First Vision

I laughted out loud when I say your note regarding The First Vision and Mariah Carey; I guess I was showing my age. Vandalism is so prevalent on articles related to Mormonism, it is a knee jerk reaction. Thanks for correcting it. Is that album really so important that we need to perfect all links? [edit] Hookrej is back...

Hello Extraordinary Machine, I see that you've also had certain problems with a user: Hookrej, the one that keeps editing P!nk articles according to his/her (any idea if is a boy or girl, child or adult?) likes, reverting every other editor edits, ordering according to peaks because he wants everyone to see the #1 positions first, also bolding those (which I think violates the Neutral View policy) H may think that this is a free 'fansite' for only him to edit. You can check his latest "contribution" at U + Ur Hand edits history. Is there any way to report Hookrej? Thanks a million in advanced. DanV 17:33, 2 November 2006 (UTC) |}

I forgive for my missed editions, I am Brazilian but I understand the English the sufficient one to edit. the descografia is of the skill that I created it. But it has all has in its PC the same resolution of screen that its, thinking about this I moved for the edition previous, that is cleaner, lesser and less confused. I wait that you debtor understands to me.]

I am not ignoring you, I I only find that the wikipédia does not say that we must place tablas in the discografia. He sees for example the discografia of madonna. I only find that you want to place everything in its way, without listening to what we are considering, you simply you go there and dumb. I continue finding that my way is much more easy of being seen, and I am not confused as the one that I made, I want to change only MY STYLE OF discografia.

[edit] Image:KaDee Strickland in Fever Pitch.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:KaDee Strickland in Fever Pitch.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Oden 07:08, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Album covers are fair use

Stop removing images from Infoboxed for John Mayer. Fair use indicates images cannot be used, however reasonable use (i.e. thumbnail use) is acceptable.

I am going to restore every one of the reverts you've completed.

If you intend re-reverting, please discuss this in the talk page.

Once again, no rules were broken by their inclusions and you've just made a pain of yourself by removing them.
