This is a list of the extreme points of Japan, the points that are farther north, south, east or west than any other location.

¹ Benten Island is the northernmost point under Japanese control. The northernmost point claimed by Japan is Cape Kamuiwakka (カムイワッカ岬 Kamuiwakka-misaki?), Iturup (Etorofu) Island, Shibetoro, Hokkaidō (45°33'N); part of the Northern Territories, currently administrated by Russia.
² The southernmost point open to the public is Cape Takanazaki (高那崎?), Hateruma Island (波照間島 Hateruma-jima?), Taketomi, Okinawa pref. (24°02'N)
³ The easternmost point open to the public is Cape Nosappu (納沙布岬 Nosappu-misaki?), Nemuro, Hokkaidō (145°49'E)
