Unreal Tournament: Expanded Multiplayer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Unreal Tournament: Expanded Multiplayer, or UT XMP, is an Unreal Tournament 2004 port of eXpanded MultiPlayer, the free 2003 multiplayer expansion pack originally for Unreal 2.

[edit] Motivation

Despite its short lifespan, the original XMP led to a relatively sizable community of dedicated players. After Legend Entertainment was shut down by Atari in January 2004, XMP would no longer be supported. This disappointed its fans, and inspired by this news, in April 2004, several key community members as well as ex-Legend Entertainment programmers formed Free Monkey Interactive, and announced their plans to port the game to Unreal Tournament 2004.

The new company changed the capitalization of the title, changing eXpanded into Expanded, but decided to try and leave as much as possible of the original game intact. The first playable demonstration, "Public Beta 1a", was released 3 January 2005. Free Monkey Interactive has since released several more screenshots, promotional videos, and beta releases showcasing their work so far.

There is no known release date as of yet.
