EX: Delta Species is the eleventh set of the Pokémon Trading Card Game released by Pokémon USA. It is set in the research centre, Holon. Due to a mix-up with translations, this was supposed to be released after EX Legend Maker, but that was delayed until February 2006 in English-language territories. The set's official symbol is Holon Tower. The tower has a tall cylindrical body, what looks like a massive roof, and two buttresses at its base.

[edit] Characteristics
[edit] General
A pattern to this set's illustrations is that nearly every original card in this set contains Holon Tower in the background or features Holon Tower itself, whether it's a Pokémon, Trainer, or even Energy, regardless of its illustrator. Holon Tower can be easily identified: It's a tall stone tower with plenty of vegetation and often a group of red-roofed buildings around it.
[edit] Pokémon
EX Delta Species established this group as a solid category of Pokémon. It's a complement to the Dark Pokémon from EX Team Rocket Returns in at least two different ways: Dark Pokémon make good use of Darkness Energy due to their blending with the Dark-type, and Delta Pokémon make good use of Metal Energy due to their blending with the Metal-type. Also, whereas Pokémon become Dark out of the darkness of an obviously evil organization, Team Rocket, Pokémon become Delta Species out of light (electromagnetic radiation) from an organization that's presumably good, the Holon science team.
A Delta Pokémon in this set is expected to carry the Metal-type and, depending on the Pokémon, either its regular type or an entirely different type altogether. Certain cards are specially designed for Delta Pokémon, and because the caption "Delta Species" is not part of its title, it can evolve to and from an ordinary Pokémon. The rules determining Pokémon types for Delta Pokémon don't necessarily carry over to EX Holon Phantoms or EX Crystal Guardians - in fact, quite the opposite.
Every Pokémon belonging to the Holon science team, indicated by having "Holon's" in its name, can be converted into an Energy card. How much Energy it's worth depends on whether it has fully evolved or not. Holon's Magnemite and Holon's Voltorb can be used as 1 Colorless Energy. Their evolved forms are substabntially more powerful.
[edit] Trainer Cards
EX Delta Species introduces a number of people living in and around Holon Tower. While the Supporter cards representing them are varied in their purposes, all Supporters in this set require the user to discard a card in order to use them. (The benefit is that these cards are more powerful than normal Supporters.) Also, every Supporter in this set starts with the word "Holon" (probably to bring Holon Transceiver to its maximum potential).
[edit] Types of Pokémon in EX Delta Species
[edit] Pokémon-ex
Pokémon-ex are incredibly powerful. Their HP are usually far above that of their regular form, and they are much stronger. On occasions, some Pokémon-ex, such as Steelix ex, have two Resistances, and some have no Weakness. Some, however, such as Gengar ex, have two Weaknesses, putting them at a disadvantage. Another disadvantage of Pokémon-ex is that when Knocked Out, the player who has done so must take two Prize cards instead of the usual one.
[edit] Pokémon-*
Pokémon-* tend to be fairly similar to Pokémon-ex in that their HP are sometimes elevated and they can sometimes be stronger than their regular counterparts. However, this is not as regular in Pokémon-* as it is in Pokémon-ex. Pokémon-* usually appear in sets in groups of three; for example, Mudkip, Treecko and Torchic and Regirock, Regice and Registeel. Only one Pokémon-* may be put in a deck, regardless of whether it is a 30-card deck or a 60-card deck.
[edit] Delta Species Pokémon
Delta Species Pokémon are Pokémon that have had their genes modified, causing a disturbance in their regular pattern - as well as their natural types. For example, in this set, Mewtwo, normally a Psychic-type, is a Fire-type.
[edit] Holon's Pokémon
Holon's Pokémon are not genetically modified, but are special Pokémon cards that can double as Special Energy cards - either one Colorless energy, or two of any energy (often referred to as two Rainbow energy). The only Holon's Pokémon in this set are Holon's Voltorb, Holon's Magnemite, Holon's Electrode, and Holon's Magneton.
