Evil Morning is an internet-circulated bootleg, constantly expanding album of fan-created mash-up remixes of songs by Morning Musume and their side groups, solo projects, and associated bands within the Hello! Project umbrella. The basic concept of the album is to combine acapella versions of Morning Musume or related hit singles with heavy metal musical arrangements. These remixes are said to have originated in Japan and are presumably done by an anonymous heavy metal musician, identified only as "#13 Root", who is also a fan of Morning Musume.
The great majority of the remixes retain most of the Morning Musume/Hello! Project lead and backing vocals, while the backing tracks use live guitars and bass, programmed drums, and occasional synthesiser, and the new arrangements, while they are usually faithful to the original song, are arranged in the style of particular metal bands. There have been some exceptions to these rules - the intro of remix of Morning Musume's "Hyokkori Hyoutan-Jima" samples the stomping and clapping from Queen's "We Will Rock You" and deletes Mari Yaguchi's spoken introduction; likewise, Mika Todd's opening speech as heard on the original version of Mini Moni's "Crazy About You" is deleted entirely.
Though the bootleg collection is titled Evil Morning, which would suggest a darker sound such as that of black metal, most of the musical arrangements call to mind the less "evil" style of 1980's hair metal and/or power metal.
As of November 2006, Evil Morning's song count stands at 22 songs.
