Evan Almighty is a 2007 comedy film directed by Tom Shadyac and starring Steve Carell, with Morgan Freeman reprising his role as God. The film is a sequel to the 2003 Bruce Almighty. Evan Almighty has a target release date of June 22, 2007.

Newly elected to Congress, Evan (Steve Carell) leaves Buffalo behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God (Morgan Freeman) appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark. But his befuddled family just can't decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions.

  • Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston both declined to reprise their roles from Bruce Almighty. Carrey "is not a big fan of doing the same character twice". [1]
  • Some scenes for the movie were filmed in downtown Waynesboro, Virginia, dressed up to be the fictional town of Huntsville.[2]
  • Additional exterior scenes were filmed in Staunton, Virginia.
  • The ark, as well as a street of houses were built in the small community of Crozet, Virginia.
  • Filming took place in Richmond, Virginia during May 2006 at the John Marshall Hotel, dressed to be the Rayburn House Office Building.
  • Steve Carell hurt his ankle on May 13, 2006, while stepping out of a Hummer in downtown Richmond.[3]
  • The ark scene was filmed in Crozet, Virginia, near Charlottesville. It will measure 450 feet long, 80 feet wide and 51 feet high. This is based on actual measurements in the Bible.[1]
  • According to the trailer, the box labeled "Alpha-Omega Hardware" (referencing God), Evan's address is "614 Oakwood Lane, Huntsville, Virginia".
  • This will be the second movie to star both Steve Carell and Wanda Sykes, after Over the Hedge.
  • Maile Flanagan, the English dub voice actress of Naruto Uzumaki on Naruto, has a cameo in the film as a mailcarrier.
  • Carell shot the film during the week, and would proceed to shoot the third season of The Office during weekends.
  • The Depression Lake in Universal Studios was used for this movie.

  • At an initial budget of approximiately $140 million, Evan Almighty is slated to be the most expensive comedy movie ever made. Added costs such as set construction, visual effects, and problems with filming multiple animals in a controlled location could bring the budget up to $160-175 million. Once marketing for the film is also included, the film's entire budget is estimated to be $250 million.[1]
  • Steve Carell will earn a reported $5 million for his role in the film.[1]
