Nuthatch in Langholm (Scotland)

I heard an unusual bird call, a rapid tui tui, as I scoured the area I spotted a small bird working its way down a tree. Down a tree? There is only one bird in the British Isles that does that, however it is not supposed to live in Scotland! Panic ensues as I try to get my binoculars focused, it skips to another tree, where has it gone; I had to get a close up to get a positive identification. Eureka! I had it in my sites a Nuthatch! blue grey on top, russet below, black eye stripe, stumpy tail. This small bird is resident in England and Wales but supposed to be absent in Scotland. This is an extract from the website of GeorgeSmith.me.uk, resident in the town of Langholm in South West Scotland. [1]George Smith 195.92.168.172 06:54, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)
