European SC Championships 2004

The European SC Championships 2004 was held in Vienna, Austria, in a mobile pool located in the Vienna City Hall (Wiener Stadthalle). It was the 8th edition of the tournament, which was organised by LEN.

During the Championships the award of the 900th Short Course medal was achieved sincethe inauguration of the event in Rostock (1996), with the presentation of the silver medal in the final of the Men's 100 m Backstroke. Besides that, long serving Austrian swimmer Judith Draxler chose the Championshipsto announce her retirement from toplevel competition. Judith was given a rousing reception by the her teammates and the crowd and her contribution to world and Austrian swimming was marked with the presentation of the Golden Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria by the State Secretary for Sports, Karl Schweitzer.
