European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Multilingualism

European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Multilingualism is a member of the European Commission responsible for policies in education and training, youth, sport, civil society, culture , translation, interpretation, relations with the Office for Official Publications of the European Communities and multilingualism.
The portfolio was first created in 2004 for the Barroso commission, succeeding European Commissioner for Education and Culture. It is current held by the commissioner for Slovakia Ján Figeľ. From 2007 the responsibility of multilingualism will pass to European Commissioner for Multilingualism.
