Category talk:European Americans

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Turkey - Asia (but UEFA and Eurovision); Cyprus - Asia (but EU, UEFA and Eurovision); Israel - Asia (but UEFA and Eurovision);

Simple really!

By the way, you could refer to the pages on European Mexicans, European Canadians and European Australians. Though Turks feature as European Mexicans, there are no Turks, Cypriots or Jews otherwise in these categories. No Faroese Americans? "Pourquoi?", we ask ourselves.

I removed all the cat references to this category because I could get nowhere with one editor who insisted that each '(euro-country) Americans' category had to be placed both in the the 'European Americans' category (which I previously helped to populate) and in the 'American people by ethnic or national origin' (where I had originally removed all the references--only to see this editor insert them all back in). This was double level (duplicate) categorization which I thought Wiki rules did not like. I also noticed that some other categories had no subcategorization by continent (such as 'lists of American people by ethnic or national origin') so I concluded that such 'continent' categories were not popular. Finally, today, another editor removed two Asian countries from 'Asian American' category; this editor was equating 'Asian' with the race I suppose not with continent. So I gave up. I suppose I was hasty in all this, but I got no support from various forus where I had asked for help. What do you think? I can help revert my work, if necessary. I long ago re-added these continental categories. Thanks Hmains 02:18, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
