Eugenio Garza Lagüera (b. December 18, 1926 in Monterrey) is a notable Mexican businessman and belongs to the Garza Sada dynasty. He was the long time leader of Fomento Económico Mexicano, S.A., a.k.a. FEMSA (formerly known as VISA); Latin America's largest beverage corporation that manufactures and distributes several leading beer brands and the world's second-largest Coca-Cola bottler. FEMSA is the holding of Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma Brewery.

[edit] Early Life

Eugenio Garza Laguera is the oldest of eight brothers and sisters of Mexican business manEugenio Garza Sada and Consuelo Laguera. He has 5 daughters and he is married to Eva Gonda Rivera. He studied Industrial Chemical Engineering at the then newly founded Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). Later, he attended technical schools in both Missouri and Texas.

[edit] Professional and Businessman Life

In 1947 he was hired by a firm named Tecnica Industrial where he began as a laboratorist, rising 16 years later to lead the business. In 1969, he was appointed to the Visa Group board of directors; becoming president of the board in 1981.

Eugenio Garza Laguera was president of Grupo Serfin (now Banco Santander Serfin), during the Mexican peso devaluation of 1982, and the subsequent nationalization of all private banks. Grupo Serfin lost half its size at that time and had to be reorganized accordingly. In 1991 when the Mexican government decided to privatize the banking system, Eugenio Garza Lagüera bought the Bancomer Banking Group.

In addition to his life as businessman, Eugenio Garza Laguera has been a supporter of Arts and Education. He has continued his father's work becoming the President of EISAC, the organization which supports the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM.
