Eugen Bopp is a footballer currently playing for Rotherham United, having been released by Nottingham Forest in May 2006. He was born September 5, 1983 in Kyiv, Ukraine but has German nationality. He is plays centre, left or right of midfield. He became something of a cult figure at Forest, and is still a favourite with the fans.
Eugen Bopp moved to Germany when he was very young and joined Bayern Munich as a youth. Bopp, knowing that he would find it hard to get in to the Bayern first team, happily switched life in Munich to join Nottingham Forest. Despite not playing a great deal of games in his Forest career he was a fans' favourite, reflected by many different chants.
He played over 60 games for Forest, but only half (38) of those were in the starting line-up in his four years at the club. He was often used as a substitute and sometimes scored spectacular goals, gaining 11 goals in total. On the final day of the 04-05 season he scored his most spectacular goal; with his first touch of the match, he took the ball on the chest and struck a brilliant volley over the goalkeeper from around 25 yards. The goal was responsible for relegating Gillingham FC. (click this link to view the goal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTdFUACB0c4))
Following his release from Nottingham Forest, he was taken on trial by Rotherham United for the majority of the South Yorkshire club's pre-season, scoring against Premiership opponents, Sheffield United. Due to his impressive trial spell, he signed a short term contract on the 3rd August 2006 and was given the number 25 shirt. As a result of his continued excellent performances on the pitch (and one spectacular goal against Scunthorpe United F.C.), Bopp was offered a contract extension until the end of the season.
