Eucumbene River

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eucumbene River rises in the northern part of the Kosciuszko National Park in New South Wales, Australia, and flows south. Its flow is blocked by Eucumbene Dam, the largest dam in the Snowy Mountains Scheme. The river valley continues from the dam wall to its junction with the Snowy River which is now part of Lake Jindabyne.

In Spring the source of water for this river is snow melt around Kiandra - an abandoned gold mining town from the 1800s. The river source is protected within the Kosciuszko National Park. There is little disturbance from man today, apart from the Snowy Mountains Highway which runs through its catchment.
