Ethernet in the First Mile

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ethernet in the First Mile, also known as IEEE 802.3ah and EFM, is a point-to-multipoint technology designed to allow standard Ethernet frames to unidirectionally travel from subscriber networks directly to end user equipment.

It consists of seven new clauses:

  • 100BASE-LX10
  • 100BASE-BX10
  • 1000BASE-LX10
  • 1000BASE-BX10
  • 1000BASE-PX10
  • 1000BASE-PX20
  • 10PASS-TS
  • 2BASE-TL — Allow for full duplex 2 MBit/sec of twisted pair copper wires up to a distance of 2700m (8800 feet).

It was developed out working group 802.3ah and was voted to be part of the IEEE 802.3 in June 2004.
