Ethel Turner

Ethel Turner (1872 - 1958) was an Australian novelist and children's writer.
She was born in Doncaster in England, moving to Australia as a child, where she attended Sydney Girls High School .
Her best-known work is her first novel, Seven Little Australians (1894), which is widely considered as a classic of Australian children's literature. The book, together with the sequel The Family at Misrule (1895), deals with the lives of the Woolcot family, particularly with its seven mischievous and rebellious children, in 1880s Australia. The book was turned into a 10 episode television series in 1973. [1]
Turner published a number of other books for children, short stories and poems. These include Little Mother Meg and Judy and Punch, which dealt further with the stories of characters introduced in Seven Little Australians.
Ethel Turner has been awarded a number of prestigious literary awards and can easily be classed as one of Australia's best-loved authors.
