[edit] Discussion
Dev requested this discussion, but I'm not sure why. The Esperanza Star is a WikiProject Star. "A Wikiproject award is awarded for work on a wikiproject, or work of substantial interest to those members of that wikiproject." This is exactly what the Esperanza Star is for. If we get rid of it, we very well might get rid of every single other WikiProject Award as well. No, not everyone gets them, but I'm not expecting a Cricket Star or a Stargate Award anytime soon. - Thank you for creating this discussion. My concern is that one can achieve this award only if one is an Esperanzan - which makes it an award to an editor on the basis of how they identify, not what they do. Coming from a recent discussion where a suggestion to award the proposed LGBT Barnstar to Wikipedians who identify as homosexual was immediately opposed, I felt this might need further discussion. - I do not see any reason to delete this as per The Halo's comments. Any WikiProject has the right to create an award to thank a contributor. This especially fits in wit Esperanza's mission.
- In response to the comment the only Esperanzians will be able to win the award, I think that the it could be given to anyone who acts out the goals of the project, even if they are not in it. – Heaven's Wrath Talk 18:58, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)Don't mention it Dev. I saw that felt an Esperanzian should create these discussions, and that it wasn't up, so :) Anyway, as it says on the wikiproject award page "A Wikiproject award is awarded for work on a wikiproject, or work of substantial interest to those members of that wikiproject." - so I think the only real problem here is that so far the award hasn't been given to any one who has done work of substantial interest to those members of that wikiproject. So, as I see it, this is really more of a problem with giving out the Star, not with the Star itself. Thε Halo Θ 19:00, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- Potentially. But I think that the fact that only Esperanzans are likely to contribute to Esperanza substantially makes award a bit dodgey. After all, anyone can edit the articles covered by a wikiproject and be awarded their star without beinga member, but the Esperanzan one is a bit difficult. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 19:05, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- From reading its description, I got the feeling that it is not for working on the Esperanza project itself, but instead acting in the spirit of Esperanza. If it is the latter, it would open it up significantly, allowing anyone who helps strengthen Wikipedia's sense of community to potentially gain the award. --Limetom 23:04, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

- Support I think that the Esperanza Star can be given to anyone, esperazian or not, who shows the sort of quailities that Esperanza stand for. Thε Halo Θ 23:59, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- Support I wrote the award description myself as User:Aeon1006 proposed the design. I specifically said, if I remember correctly, that the Esperanza Star was made to award those who follow the ideals of the Esperanza community.--Ed ¿Cómo estás? 00:17, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep - per Halo and Ed, directly above. - jc37 01:03, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep per above. Other WikiProjects have awards; I don't see why Esperanza is so different. DoomsDay349 01:28, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- The wikiprojects are related to article writing. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 08:45, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep as per above. It should, as its description says, be given out to those who act in the spirit of Esperanza. --Limetom 01:52, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

- Keep Trust me, no one gives a flip about a single barnstar. Anyone outside of Esperanza who has a serious project with a Wikiproject Barnstar is just being a WP:DICK and needs to be slapped. When the Deletionists don't even want to delete it.... --ElaragirlTalk|Count 07:36, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
