[edit] Issues
I think the issue of archiving needs to be addressed: even if most Esperanza pages do stay, I can't see a reason why we need archives of the Coffee Lounge, Barnstar Brigading, etc. Keeping archives for, I would say, about a week, and then deleting them seems reasonable to me. - Che Nuevara 21:05, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Or maybe it could be locked from editing and preserved as a reminder to the rest of the community as well as future users. ;) ★MESSEDROCKER★ 21:14, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Haha -- I meant the constant archiving, like the Werdnabot archiving of the CL. There's no reason we the entire history of BB / CL around, even if they stay (which I find unlikely anyway). - Che Nuevara 21:17, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Nah a week is a bit short how about a month? Whispering 02:07, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- What do we even need archives of these things for anyway? Do we really need to know who gave whom what barnstar? And does anyone ever look at the Coffee Lounge archives? - Che Nuevara 02:13, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion
This if for deletion of archives? Yup; delete, delete, delete, provided that the main pages go as well. Drain on server resources. DoomsDay349 23:59, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

- My intention is to support deleting the archives even if the main pages don't go as well, and not archiving content on non-essential pages if they stay. - Che Nuevara 00:17, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- I support deletion of the archive pages as well, provided that more Esperanzians participate in this discussion.--Ed ¿Cómo estás? 01:02, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Why not just delete things from discussion pages as you go? They're still in the history if anyone really wants them. -- SCZenz 02:26, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- If someone could write a bot similar to Werdnabot which would simply delete instead of archiving, that would be stellar. I suggested the archive/delete because it would standardize when things are deleted, but I would be open to other suggestions. - Che Nuevara 04:43, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

- In regard to Don't Worry About Performance, I believe that only affects matters directly related to the encyclopedia. Like articles and categories, not things like the Coffee Lounge. Definitely they should be deleted. DoomsDay349 22:01, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, go read the page. It says don't worry about performance because things aren't actually ever really "deleted" from the system, so there's nothing you can do to improve performance. Once an edit has been made it sticks around forever, it may just get its deleted edit bit set to true. --Cyde Weys 05:22, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see that anywhere on that page, Cyde. - Che Nuevara 06:02, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- That does make sense, though. After all, even after pages have been deleted, adminstrators can still see the deleted versions, so they have to be stored somewhere. -- Natalya 21:43, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Good point. On the other hand, keeping around a page with no apparent use (as such archives) should still probably be avoided on principle. - Che Nuevara 22:13, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's in the source though. Remember, MediaWiki is open source, so if you really wanted to, you could look at the exact software that's running this site and verify that what I'm telling you is the truth. Not that I would have any reason to tell falsehoods about it. --Cyde Weys 06:58, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Here's an idea. Apply Wikipedia:Sandbox rules. We caught all sorts of hell for our Coffee Lounge games, but no one has said boo about Wikipedia:Sandbox/Word Association. --RoninBKETC 16:50, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Proposal
[edit] Keep
[edit] Delete
- Delete current archives of the Coffee Lounge, and all archives of Barnstar Brigade. However, if the Coffee Lounge turns into a place to discuss policy and Wikipedia-related stuff, we would need to archive the threads, as they may form important precedent. --May the Force be with you! Shreshth91 06:52, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Delete 100% agreed with Shreshth91. In all matters. He reflects views exactly. DoomsDay349 06:54, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Delete, yeah, I don't see the point of keeping what are essentially obsolete chatlogs. --Cyde Weys 06:57, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
