"Parchment will fail, the sword will fail, it is only the spiritual nature of man that can be triumphant."
- Calvin Coolidge, inaugural address, March 4, 1925

Hello! I've been involved with Esperanza ever since the conception, being elected to the advisory council in the very first election. Since then, we've been through both rough and good times: the leaving of several administrator generals, our second successful elections, and tremendous growth. Throughout it all, I've been here, doing my best to lead this wonderful organization. In fact, I took over the leadership of Esperanza during a period when our administrator general had (I'm happy to say, temporarily) left Wikipedia and my fellow advisory council members were also busy; I coordinated the election last December in the absence of the administrator general. For these several months, I've been priviledged to have been part of this success and proud of the opportunity to serve all of you.

During that time, I also actively took part in making this organization - and Esperanza - a better place to be. From creating the Esperanza mailing list to participating in trading user spaces, I've been actively involved as both a leader and a fellow Wikipedian. As a Wikipedian, I haven't hesistated to participate in some of the activities we've had here and in general promote unity (something that also goes along with being a member of the Mediation Committee). I've also been happy to talk with fellow Esperanzians, chatting in general about Wikipedia and offering support when needed. As a leader, I've done my best to turn Esperanza in the right direction. I've never hesistated to offer my opinions and to listen to what others have to say; I'm dedicated to serving Esperanza and Wikipedia. And that will never change - the community is an integral part of Wikipedia; surely it would take more than a million monkeys to put together this fabulous encyclopedia?

The future holds great promise, yet also brings obstacles in our path. Our membership has steadily risen, and I would like to have a chance to push for some more of my ideas - for example, the proposed appreciation week. Wikipedians in general have been feeling less and less appreciated; those who do the most work often receive the least attention. Appreciation week would simply be seven days to demonstrate our gratefulness to those who make Wikipedia possible - the ArbCom, the dispute resolutors, the administrators, the bureaucrats, the writers, the editors, and eveyone who contributes to the free encyclopedia. Recent events have also made clear that tensions can easily run high and conflicts turn heated; by promoting a general atmosphere where everyone feels appreciated, we could make this project better.

My decision to seek re-election was also a tough choice; there are so many other Wikipedians who would do an admirable job. However, I run not because of a lack of qualified candidates (because I would trust each and every one of you), but because of my desire to make Wikipedia and Esperanza better. I believe that my experience in Esperanza, Wikipedia, and the leadership of this organization would prove invaluable. Regardless of whether I am re-elected, I will still be here, dedicated not only to writing an encyclopedia, but dedicated to maintaining the spirit of the community.

It is this nature, this spirit of man that Calvin Coolidge spoke of nearly 100 years ago, and I'm sure I've seen it in Esperanza.

Esperanzially,
