Esperanza is an organisation dedicated to strengthening Wikipedia's sense of community and creating a support base for its members and non-members alike. As such, it is important to (and required of) members to uphold the following rules at all times on Wikipedia. We are here to set an example and set a trend and path for other Wikipedians to follow and, of course, change starts in the home.

Esperanza is a communty of people. People are not perfect. While everyone who joins has agreed to try to abide by these ideals, in reality, people will make mistakes. If any Esperanza member makes a mistake, please let them know like you would any other user. Be understanding and do your best to add hope.

Core principle: "We are Wikipedians. This means that we should be: kind, thoughtful, passionate about getting it right, open, tolerant of different viewpoints, open to criticism, bold about changing our policies and also cautious about changing our policies. We are not vindictive, childish, and we don't stoop to the level of our worst critics, no matter how much we may find them to be annoying.--Jimbo Wales 15:39, 18 December 2005 (UTC)"

[edit] Code of Conduct

By joining Esperanza and hereby becoming an Esperanzian, you agree to try to abide by the following rules in all circumstances:

  1. Assume good faith - everyone on this project is human and, as such, will make mistakes repeatedly. Make sure that you listen to both viewpoints: having opposing views is part-and-parcel of the Wiki process. Be careful about making judgements on a topic, you might be missing vital parts of information to base your decisions on.
  2. Treat others with respect, always. There's no excuse for personal attacks. Everyone here is human and has feelings. Therefore, no one can and should be labelled.
  3. Be civil towards all users. Make sure you are respectful of opposing viewpoints and are always nice. If you cannot put across your point of view civilly, say nothing at all.
  4. Don't deliberately stress other Wikipedians. This means not threatening them with legal challenges, not harassing or intimidating them and not acting in order to make any user feel uncomfortable.
  5. Don't campaign for or against any candidate for a position in an election. For example, avoid repeatedly telling people that "they can support now" or that "I can't believe that they're keeping foo, will you go and vote delete for me?".
  6. Work on articles constructively with others. Discussion trumps reverts any day.
  7. Be friendly to new users and help them if you can. Always be kind and considerate towards them, answering any questions with respect and understanding.
  8. When opposing a Request for Adminship, be as constructive as possible in your vote - if possible and relevant, please provide a rationale for your vote. Also, please be consistently nice to voters. You are free to disagree with their opinion but don't attack them.
  9. Abide by the spirit of policy, not the letter. For example, the spirit of the policy listed at WP:3RR is that you should always discuss changes rather than blankly revert. If one were to abide by the letter of this, 4 reverts in 25 hours would be acceptable.
  10. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel is explicitly forbidden. Doing so is grounds for an immediate ban from that channel and possibly other wikipedia-related ones.

This Code of Conduct applies to all Esperanzians; the Administrator General and Advisory Council are explicitly included.
