ESPNHD
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ESPN HD, launched March 30th, 2003 is a high-definition simulcast of the cable television network ESPN, both owned by Disney that broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It uses the 720p standard because the progressive 'p' nature of that signal is thought by some to be better for the fast fluid motion seen in sports [1].
Typically, only shows that are actually produced at ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut such as SportsCenter, and many live sports events are actually produced and presented in high definition. Those that are recorded elsewhere (Jim Rome is Burning is produced in Los Angeles, Pardon the Interruption and Around the Horn are both produced in Washington D.C) are presented in a standard definition, 4:3 format with stylized pillar boxes.
