Esō (慧聡?), year of birth and death unknown, was a monk who came across the sea from Kudara (modern day Korea) to Japan during the Asuka period in 595. He was a student of the Chinese Buddhist school of Sanron, and helped spread the school in Japan.
When Hōryū-ji temple was completed in 596, Esō lived with Buddhist priest named Eji who came from Kokuryo (also in modern day Korea), and together they were called sanpō no tōryō (三宝の棟梁?). According to the sangoku buppō-den engi (三国仏法伝縁起?) text, he was monk of Sanron-shū, and became a teacher of Shōtoku Taishi Buddhism.
