[edit] Childhood

Robert Leon Benfer Jr was born on December 18, 1987 in Hinesville, Georgia, USA in the Fort Stewart army base when his dad was serving the military. His mom (Janeese Schoelzel) and his dad (Robert Benfer) then had to move to Germany where his sister Nikki Benfer (March 2, 1988) was born. At age 2 his parents got divorced and Robert, his sister and his mom moved to Kerrville, Texas where she met Roberts future stepdad Curtiss Schoelzel. In 1994 Janeese and Curtiss got married and moved to Schertz, TX where Robert would spend the rest of his childhood. Robert would also have 2 step sisters on the way, Jakki Schoelzel (November 1, 1995) and Jill Schoelzel (September 15, 2000).
In 1995 he attended Schertz Elementary School where he met his best friend to this day, Sammie Penrod in the first grade. At age 6, Robert started getting really interested in film making. From age 7 to 12 he would grab his parents video and make little short video's with his sister, Nikki.

[edit] 2003

At age 15, Robert finally began to post short 45 second clay animation video's on a very popular website called Newgrounds, such as Yellow Seed,Bar Fight, and many other short movies.

Though the whole "blue blob with arms and legs" look was only for practice, after awhile it became Robert's signature style before he had the chance to make better looking characters and was the birth of the popular Klay World Series, an internet series about a bunch of idiotic blue clay people who live on a table in some ones room. [1]

These small animation's were the first of many Robert Benfer Clay animations. At this time, there were very few clay animation's on Newgrounds.com, as Newgrounds is mostly for flash animations, not live action or clay animations. Because of this, Robert was able to open a whole new door for future stop motion creators all over the web, including Mack Productions and Freemont.

Robert would also post up movies in which he would take the sound out of famous movies like The Matrix and Terminator 2 and replace the words with his own dialogue.

Robert posted 45 short films on the internet in 2003, and won 35 awards for them on Newgrounds. [2]

[edit] 2004

In 2004 Robert Benfer created some of his most well known internet clay animation films such as Glass of water, Sniper Time!, and RUBBER DUCKY OF DEATH. Robert Benfer was gaining a fanbase of over 500,000 people at age 16 and his clay animations began to appear on other websites such as UGO Player.

Robert's first step at turning his film making into a career was releasing a DVD intitled "Knox in a box", which contained all of his short clay animations. Robert made over $3000 off the dvd in the 1 year that it was available.

At the end of 2004, after the success of his first DVD, Robert decided to take the next step by beginning production on his first ever full feature clay animation film, Klay World: off the table. A movie based off his popular "Klay World" internet series.

[edit] 2005

At age 17, after 9 months of animating Klay World: off the table with a budget of only $1000, the movie was finally released on October 15 on DVD. Though the DVD was only available on Robert's official website, Robert managed to sell over 5000 copies of the movie online, grossing over $80,000. [3]

The success of Klay World: off the table marked the beginning of Robert's film career. Robert began writing the screenplay of his most challenging stopmotion film yet, Villain, a movie about about a Super Villain who gives up his villainous ways and tries to become a normal person. Villain would feature a whole new style for Robert, nothing like his old Klay World series style. The movie will feature human looking, professonaly made clay figures and set backgrounds. [4]

Klay World episodes submited this year include Next Victim!, In 3 minutes, Hotdog Job: Part 1, Hotdog Job: Part 2, Bungee Jumping Time!

[edit] 2006

In 2006, Robert began pre-production on Villain. For this film he would need a much larger budget.

In September of 2006 he met a producer named Darren Martinez. On September 16, Robert anounced on his official site that Darren was able to find him a movie studio to shoot Villain in. [5].

Where the movie will be available at has not been confirmed yet, though they are shooting for a theatre release or a worldwide DVD release.

Villain is set to begin production around December, with a budget of $1,000,000. [6]
